For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Micah; I am Tri’ing for weight loss (15 so far). I’m kinda slow, and I am mostly just riding, but have recently started to ad the swimming in. I’ll start running after like 20 more lbs.

On to the story. So I was on one of my regular “REI” rides, it’s a good 34mi ride. I made it all the way to the store, in record time for me, and turned around and was heading home. I was still riding strong, feeling good and noticed I was catching up to someone. As I got closer I noticed she seemed to be in shape, or at least far better than I.

In all fairness she could have been on mile 90 of her warm-up for all I know, but that wouldn’t help my ego to think too much about that. All I knew was for once I was going to pass someone, instead of always being passed.

As I moved in for the kill…. I mean pass, she looked back to see where I was. I pulled up behind her, and took a minute to “primp” myself before passing. I straightened my jersey and made sure I wasn’t sucking wind, because I wanted to look cool on the pass.

I pressed harder on the pedal and started my pass. I called out, “On your left.” It was looking good I was coming around with authority and was maintaining my cool. I was just about even with her when it happened.

It felt like someone hit me right in the side, A CRAMP! “Oh no,” I said to my self, “I have to keep going.” I pressed on, kept up the speed, and now that I was past her I could make all the funny faces that help with the cramps. Just then it hit me. I had to keep going till I was far enough ahead to be out of her sight before I could relax. Thank god the trail is windy and heavy with trees.

I pedaled on for a good 5min at that pace; I had to be far enough ahead now. I was really sucking wind and had to sit up and stretch. I still kinda wobbly with no hands, but I can do it in the straight areas. The pain started to subside, and I finally felt like I wasn’t going to fall over and die right there.

“On your left.” I hear and manage to squeak out a feeble “Ok.” I dropped back down onto the handle bars, just as she passed me.

Well maybe next time…

Keep up the hard work, stick to your workout plans, and you'll reach your weight loss goal in no time. And the only reason she caught you so fast was she was drafting off you

Hey, you caught up, passed, and in spite of a cramp stayed in front for 5 minutes. Sounds like a first to me. Congratulations!
