Um, let's see here... He's practically a robbing the cradle (ew, yuck) and he believes a religious doctrine created by a science fiction writer - and not a very good science fiction writer at that. Maybe I'm the one on crack for thinking his psychotic break has just shifted into high gear.

Maybe, just maybe he really is happy.  MAybe he has everything material anyone could eer want, but the truly important things like love have been missing in his life.  I hope it's not an act.  If he really is tha happy I hope he continues to be so; just maybe keep it to himself a little more.

What's the word Lothario?  or is it a Svengali?  He's 43? She's 22?

Being from Clearwater, Florida, I can tell you that the Scientologists are a wacked out bunch of tax evaders.  Cruise fits in rather nicely, I think.

Furthermore, Hollywood in general is just just as wacked.  Those people play make-believe for a living and are paid handsomely for it.  Their opinions on anything outside of acting are typically way out of touch with reality and easily disregarded.  They simply don't live in our world.

I think that it's important for celebrities to lend their fame to good works, but Tom is way off base and pompous taking a stand against antidepresants. Get a life dude!

Getting freaky lately? Does anyone really think this is a new development? He's plastic man and his former wife is plastic woman.

He gives me the creeps. I boycott any movie he's in.

I agree! I was never a big Tom Cruise fan, but this is ridiculous!
I think he is damaging Scientology's image big time (not that I believe in Scientology... a cult is a cult is a cult)...
Ummm I wonder what's going on......
A.- He is going through a severe midlife crisis.
B.- Scientology is in need of more followers and they named Tom their embassador (wrong move).
C.- Never, ever hire your sister / brother to be your Publicist....

I've never been one to care one bit about a famous person's personal life...my few bucks goes to whatever entertainment they provide me, and that's that. I like some of the movies he's been in, he's not a terrible actor unlike many of our uber-good-looking idols who can only pretend to be the same persona over and over again. And he was in a Stanley Kubrick movie, which immediately makes him OK in my book.

But I do think it's interesting how people are reacting to this. I mean, it's made it to CNN like it's big news. Is it the shattering of the idol image, do you think? Celebs should be seen and not speak unless they have bland views that everyone can deal with? I'm not picking on anybody here, I think what he's said recently is totally whacko (and Scientology...don't get me started). I'm just curious why it matters to people. Is it a projection of a fantasy that this person is the same as Joe Average, and now it's been destroyed?

Seriously, I want to know. This stuff is fascinating.

I'm surprised you think he's a decent actor. It seemed to me (when I used to watch his movies) that he was the same character over and over and over again. Plastic man. All teeth and NO acting legs.

To each his own!

Russell Crowe's gotta be pretty happy about his reign as "celebrity schmuck of the moment" being over.

He might be wacky, but he's still hot.

The thing that's really tricky about celebs is that their life is all over the media.  Tommy boy here is maximizing on that and being very vocal about his views and intolerant of others views. It's one thing to use your celeb-ness to make an issue heard, it's another to be a jerk about it.

I just said he wasn't horrible. That doesn't mean he's any good. He's certainly of a type.
I guess I'm swayed by the one or two movies I've seen him in and said to myself "Hmph. He's actually acting!" I like pleasant surprises.
