Subject: Question regarding awards

I am new to tri's and wondering if all "awards" in age group races are basically medals or awards.  Is this a standard thing for all non PRO race?  

 I have no problem with this, in fact I think it's better than bike racing (where I come from) where you've got guys fighting over 10 bucks or whatever.  Just curious... thanks.

First prize in an age group is typically a medal.  Second prize is a set of steak knives.  Third prize is you're fired.  Awards are for winners.

I did a bunch of races in North Carolina this year (NCTS), and I think the charities that benefit from the race is in charge of the prizes, because they were all so different. I usually stick around for the awards just in case I make the podium. Here's a list of the awards I've seen.

* plastic picture frame with a postcard of the lake in it
* Medal
* Golf Towel
* Poster with collage of photos
* a coffee mug
* sweat jacket
* bike jerseys (one race gave that to the overall female and male winners. They looked real nice from a distance anyway. I didn't see one up close!!)
