Asking out of total curiosity.

I did my 2nd Olympic this past weekend in ~2:32:00, but my first Olympic I did @ the end of last Sept in ~2:53:00. Both courses are very similar. Thats a ~21 min improvement in 9 months and I still feel like the sky is the limit. Of course, I am NOT expecting another 21 min improvement over the next 9 months.

How many years for you did it take before these kind of drastic time decreases start to flatten?

I had huge improvements through my second year.  Now in my 3rd and in far better shape and still getting faster, but that slope is definitely getting a lot flatter!

Sad, but true.

I can't get around human physiology and the effects of aging.

My goal was to get in the top 10 of a major triathlon.  (At least 500 people entered) I trained hard for about 4 years and in the 4rth year I won two minor triathlons and came in 10th at The Texas A&M triathlon.  That was pretty much my peak.  It was a very long time ago.  Youth is an amazing thing.

For most AGers the biggest limiter is time available for training and consistency hence as long as you keep increasing your workload, improving your power/pace @ threshold over the years, taking time off to recover (mentally and physically) and starting again you should see gains for a long time. It is hard for AGers to get close to their max potential, however they usually plateau because of lack of training (inadequate workload) and consistency.

I am in my fifth season of competing in triathlon; here is a year over year comparison for my sprint and OD races.

You can see that it appears I am still improving in both distances and that the trend seems to remaining roughly constant.  The biggest variable I have changed year over year is more volume on the bike and run (not on the bike yet this year ) and having an on deck swim coach for the past two seasons.
