I am feeling more and more ready for my first tri!  I am planning to get to the event an hour early.  I'm not too stressed about transitions, b/c this is my first race, and I plan to look at it as a learning experience.

I am curious, though...what do you do to warm up?  I feel better the more warm I am (don't we all?), but I don't want to overdo a warmup, either.  Just wondering if anyone has some good advice.

Thanks!!!

I see people doing different things, some run, some bike, some just stretch. For me, I like to get in the water as early as I can. Considering that is the first event, I think warming up for the swim is pretty important.

Enjoy your first race!

Hope you have a great time!

A lot of places have a section set up for swim warmups. If the water's going to be cold it'd probably be a good idea to do that, if only to not suck in a ton of water when your face hits the cold while people are trying to kick you in the head.

i'd bet your adrinilin (sp?) will keep you warmed up enough for your first race.  on my first tri, the 20min walk from parking to transition was my warm up.  make sure you know how far your parking will.

have fun and good luck!!

To warm up i just usually stretch a little bit, get in the water and do a few quick sprints to get warmed up and spike my heart rate a little. Good luck on your first race, have fun and report back how it went.

After my first race I may have come to the conclusion it might be better for me to actually do a swim warm-up only.  My arms felt like lead weights my first TRI and I found this to be true in training as well for my first 200 yds or so.  After that my arms felt relaxed and felt great.  For my first Tri I did some running and stretching as well, but I think with my next race (one week away) I will focus on  stretching and then a light warm-up swim to get my heart rate up and warm up my arms.

Good luck... it was a great first experience that is why I am TRI'ing again.
