Pre-race routine:

Routine disrupted by work, forgot to have coffee or snack at 4 pm, ate 2 ounces of almonds in the car on the way to the race, which I later regretted. Racing at 6:30 PM makes nutrition a bit tricky.
Event warmup:

Warmed up more than in other races, including jogging through some lovely mid-summer gardens near the race venue.
Run
  • 36m 37s
  • 3.1 miles

Comments:

The weather was horrid. Extremely humid, with thunderstorm warnings active. I was prepared to macho it out and run in the rain, but instead I got the dense pre-rain haze. I actually wondered if I was having a problem with asthma at one point because it was so thick to breath.

I got a cramp around mile 1.75 that I had a lot of trouble shaking. I think the 11 minute mile pace I had been doing wasn't sustainable. This makes me really sad. I thought I'd be better by now, but instead this was the worst time of the three races I've done here.

Well, you know, if every one was a good one, more people would do them!  At least you did it..I can relate to the breathing problems in the hot humid weather - it's like trying to run in a sauna.

You ran the race, a lot of people didn't even do that.

Sometimes we need a bad race to make the good races feel even better! Good job for getting out there.

Well, you were running in extreme humidity + the calf cramp - try again on a "perfect" running day!

Good job finishing though, sounds like a fun race.

Well done Gwendal!  Don't get upset about "being able to run faster" etc.  You raced at high heat and humidity.  That's tough!  You did a great job!!

Good job finishing the race.  We won't always see improvements every time, sounds like conditions were tough
