Anyone know how to do this safely?

We have a converter so planned to just plug the Iphone into that.  BUT, I have a couple Iphone converters where the plug part comes off and looks like you can swith them out.  Is that a built in converter and you would just need to get the UK plug adapter?  Similar to laptop chargers?  You don't need to buy a converter for laptops becuase if you just buy a simple adapter, the converter is built into the charging unit.

I DO know if I get the use the simple plug to usb adapter that came with the phone, I will fry it.  It's not heavy or large enough to have the electronics to convert.  It's the bigger chargers that feel heavier and look to have the capacity to change adapters.

(it's for my wife's trip.  I also suggested to plug it into a computer usb if available, and you would be safe for sure).  I only ask because she fries a flat iron on every trip we go there and don't want to see that happen to her phone.

If you look at the charger, it should have a range of voltage and current that it can handle. If the country you are visiting falls withing those ranges, you just need a simple adapter.

If it doesn't fall in those ranges, you need a power converter.

Pretty sure your iPhone will handle both voltages. When charging my iPod in Europe, I just bought a USB plug there and used that.

Gotta bring the cord for your phone though.

The power supply for my computer includes a USB charger, so that's how I've charged my IPhone in Australia and South Africa.  Third-party computer adapters are about $50 and most should give you this option as well.

The iPhone itself only handles the 5V DC that is standard with USB ports.  It's the wall charger portion that transforms the 110V (US) or 220V (Europe) into 5V DC.

The standard Apple wall charger works on both 110 and 220.  Just need the prong adapter (Can buy a kit of many adapters for $10-15).
