Hi,

A friend of mine, Matt, turned me on to this website. I've been dabbling with fitness on and off for... well, way too many years now. Anyway, things kind of lined up for me... wanting to get fitter, wanting to get healthier, getting Matt's pointer and liking this log and community. So.... here I am.

I am 47 yo and most interested in losing 10 lbs and dropping my blood pressure. Along the way, I want to have fun, feel stronger and see my times go down.

I love biking. I usually ride between 13 and 17 miles and average between 12 and 15 mph on my Jamis Coda -- a hybrid.

I tolerate running but have not done it in years. i found the 5K training program on this website and I'm weaving it in with my riding.

I don't really like swimming because of my general ineptitude, but I like the idea of getting better at it.

Right now... I am thinking I could use a training program for biking and swimming. So if you know of any or have any good pointers for me... I'm all ears.

Last but not least, I am open to any and all suggestions on starting this insanity which oddly enough intrigues me. And I live in Narberth, PA for anyone living nearby that is interested in riding.

Thanks in advance for any help.

-Mario

Welcome!  Well, swimming was tough for me too in the beginning.  Consider a master's swim group or taking a class.  Or, get the Total Immersion book.  Check the main page for articles related to swimming.

Biking - just get out and ride!  Throw in some intervals for increasing speed.

Good luck!

I'm also considering taking up biking, but not running and swimming. My husband caught the bug two years ago and I've become a triathlon widow. I'd better take up something or he's liable to leave me in the dust. I'm also in search of a bike training program to enjoy a 65 mile Flatflower in April 2005. I can ride 10 miles now with little to no rest time. I have a mountain bike, no speedometer, lousy seat, and know I'll need to invest some $'s into equipment to make it more enjoyable. How many miles should I try to ride each week, how much to increase each week to get to 65 by April 2005. I could stand to lose 20 lbs also (another big motivator).

thanks for any responses
