On Sunday my swim "training" was in a rather scenic location, the Neptune Pool at Hearst Castle.  Granted, I only did a few actual laps, although I did do a cannon ball in front of the roman pillars

Cool, are you part of staff or get it on an auction?

I asked the security guard whether people ever jumped in.  He said it's a $100 ticket and an escort off the property.  After looking at how much they auction them for, I thought that was actually a pretty good deal, plus you get a private ride down the hill!

My wife is a volunteer docent with the Living History program, her volunteer work (getting dressed up in 20/30's clothes and hanging out at the castle during evening tours) enabled us to partake in one of the Employee swims.

Beyond that, it usually takes an auction or expensive charity event to dip your toes in the pool.

Nice - we went to one of the evening tours last year.

As an aside, my grandfather was a visitor back in the Hearst days and makes a short appearance with Charlie Chaplin in the movie.  Always fun to watch!

I first decided I was going to "do" a triathlon in 1994. It wasn't until 13 years later, in 2007 that I actually did. Why did it take me 13 years to get to the starting line? The swim!

Stroke after stroke, my pace was pulling me out into the middle of the lake quickly. The cover seemed to be getting thicker. But still in the distance, the little boathouse was my lighthouse.

Many people in the triathlon world think they need to just emulate Ian Thorpe to have a faster time, or have a similar stroke to Michael Phelps to cruise through the swim. Unfortunately...
