That looks cool!  I'm excited because it looks smaller than the 305 and the interface looks very cool.

The 405 looks super slick - must be why my 305 was so inexpensive in November

The news release I just read says water resistant (IPX7). I seem to remember somebody a while back mentioning what the IPX7 means. Anyone know what IPX7 means???

Same as the 301/305:

Most newer Garmin® GPS units are waterproof in accordance with IEC 60529 IPX7. IEC 60529 is a European system of test specification standards for classifying the degrees of protection provided by the enclosures of electrical equipment. An IPX7 designation means the GPS case can withstand accidental immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. An IPX8 designation is for continuous underwater use.

Sweet...I was just talking to someone the other day how Garmin needed to come out with  a 305-type GPS watch in the form factor of the Garmin 50 HRM, foot-pod deal.

Very cool, notice they wait until after Christmas so all those people who just got a smokin' deal on the 305 already want the 405

So not waterproof?? And is it GPS?? It say the accuracy of our GPS enabled watches makes me think it is not GPS.

ah well my lovely boyfriend gave me a 305 for xmas. I'm quite small and can barely lift my arm with it on my wrist but I don't care.

I will look forward to upgrading to the 505 one day!

It gives you pace, and without a footpod I don't see how else you could do that.  Garmin's whole deal is that they're a GPS company.  I doubt they'd be emphasizing the new smaller size of it if it wasn't comparable to the 305 in features.

Here's the link from Garmin's website with more detailed specs: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142&pID=11039

The HRM is still a strap around your chest, and the site also confirms not waterproof, just water resistant.  Looks much nicer than the 305, but if it's just the same as a 305 that looks better, I think I'll hold off.  I'll still need to compare the specs closer to decide.

Reading the link below it makes since it is GPS but the first like send that the accuracy was as good as GPS enable that led me to believe it was not GPS enabled.  Still, I can't pay 300 for a watch when my 205 works.  I am guessing amazon will have them for cheaper in a year and maybe I will get one then.

Will this one have a built in battery so you can wear it as a regular watch also?

It looks like the 405 is rated the same 'water resistance' as the 305. So in other words, 1 meter for 30 min, or crap. Look like ziplock under the swim cap is here to stay for now.

From the link above:

"Lock Onto Satellite Signals

Forerunner 405 sports a unique design that gives the GPS antenna a better view of the sky, so it can get a stronger signal during your run. And its high-sensitivity GPS receiver provides improved tracking under trees and near tall buildings."

I wonder if my cadence sensor from my 305 will work with it or if I'll need to buy a new one.
