This challenge began in January with people who had competed in the December Swim Challenge. Our challenge to each other was to add 10% to our goal from the previous month. If you made your goal - you added 10% to your next months goal and moved on. If you failed to make your goal - you did not.

What started with 22 people is now down to 8....

Thanks for the update!!  I guess I have some swimming to do - since I'll be gone the last week in March ( on a cruise - I know - hurt me), I'm going to have to do all my yardage the first 3 weeks - YIKES.

Can't believe I'm still in the mix.   This month will be hard to do, although I'm already above goal for this week, go figure.

I'll do my best but 30k+ yards this month will be TOUGH!

Thanks Steve!

I've just joined the local masters club. My original commitment in December had nothing like that figured in and was therefore pretty low compared some of you regular swimmers. The change in circumstances means I should hit this month's goal easily if my shoulders hold up. Is this an unfair advantage?

The more power to you. The goal of the challange is to increase you time in the pool. Dwayne, how many time are you in the pool a week and for how long ?

I also swim masters. One hour,  twice a week  and I still have to get in some extra swim times on the weekends to meet my goals.   The coach sets out sheets with 3 different swim sets ( typically  1500m, 1800m, 2300m) and you go at your own pace.     I think most of the people swimming do the 1800m set.

Hmmm - I thought the same for February.... I was in a Tri swim class so thought I'd easily meet my goal. Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda,,,,, I got sick and didn't log much for 2 weeks.... Stay healthy folks!

Okay, I logged ZERO yards for February so obviously was thrown out of the Challenge.

Question. What if... I log 16,000 yards to makeup for Feb + 16000x110% for March - can I be back in the Challenge?

I totally understand if someone thinks that's unfair or whatever. I won't take it personally.

I'm thinking that ............since you were one of the original few who did joint the challange in Jan, made the grade and moved on to Feb.  And looking back at your logs and seeing that you were sick for a while, and since you did not log even 1 lap,1 length, 1 meter, 1 yard,  during the last month.   I have no problem in having you back in.

Waiting for others to chime-in

It's all for fun anyway so I don't mind if Renee rejoins the challenge. I do have a couple of concerns though:

We want this challenge to end eventually, don't we, so rejoining should only be allowed in special cases or we'll never knock everyone out. Renee's case could qualify, and doing 2 months worth of swimming in 1 month sounds to me like a tough enough re-entrance requirement.

My other concern is that I wouldn't want Renee, or anyone else, hurting themselves over this. Please don't overdo it trying to catch up Renee.

I'm happy to go along with the general consensus here. Keep swimming everyone! I'm off to the pool in a few hours too.

Spreadsheet updated (note - stats are as currently logged. If you are swimming later today or logging swims later on then they will obviously not be included in totals). Good luck all!

Steve, thanks once again for updating the spreadsheet.  I notice the footnote about Renée.  My interpertation of the distance that she was going to swim was to be 17,600 due for Feb plus 10%.  I think the number shoud be 19,360 for the month of March.  If your the number is correct, I say to Renée, ( with a little bit of that Southern shake you head attitude if you know what I mean)

''YOU GO GIRL''

Mike

Thanks for the spreadsheet - You da Man!!

I got off to a slow start in March - but got 2000 yards in last night, and am going to the pool again in about an hour.....boy this challenge is motivating me to get the yards in - cause - if it wasn't for this challenge, well...other things are calling my name.

Hmm - I read the above as 16,000 plus 16,000*1.10% (17,600).
Renee - correct me if I am wrong?

Steve, It reads the same to me.  But, that is a lot of swimming.

Renée where are you??   At the pool ??

 P.S. Why don't I have "quote marks"

Holy guacamole - that's alot of yards I committed too!

Yep, it was a cumulative goal - yards I did NOT swim in Feb + yards I would have to swim in March. I better get to the pool! Didn't expect my recovery to take this long...

Yes, I'm off to a weak start, but I will meet this goal! Marathon recovery took longer than expected etc etc etc.

Good job Renee! This could turn into a real nail-biter if you're taking a solid shot at meeting your pledge. You Go Girl! (just don't hurt yourself)

Good job to everyone else who's swimming too! How's everybody doing?

I'm sitting just over the half way mark of my goal and headed to the pool tonight for 2800 + meters if I can arrange for a sitter for the kids. If not it will be another night on the bike and trainer.  My wife is away on business for the week.  I might miss Thursday's practice as well.   Way to hit the pool  Renée. I know it's a ''Solo'' challange but but I am pulling for you anyway.  Keep up the good work.

If I stick to my schedule,  I should be at 18,400 by Sunday, 30,900 by the following Sunday and 38,400 by end of month. Without monster swims!

Ok, for April - my goal is NOT 38,400yds * 110%. What do you guys think would be fair?

By the end of the month you would have grown gills, webbed hands and webbed  feet.  A goal of 38,400yds * 110% would be a swim in the park.  I say 19,360yds ( march goal) + 10% would be fair.  Unless your training plan for the month of April has you doing more distance use that as your goal.

Waiting for other to chime in.
