Subject: Signed up for my 1st Half Mary HELP!!!

Ok everybody - I had a bad month in August I have been recovering from a car accident - but I have been picking up the pace and doing pretty good - although I haven't been logging all of my workouts.

I just signed up for the Seattle Half Marathon in November - The longest  race I have ever done is a 12k - I know I can do it - I was just wondering what advice the wonderfull BT community would give me to shape up my running so that I can actually ENJOY it - I do have a 64 mile bike race this Sunday - but nothing else really planned until The Seattle Half.

I run 2-5 miles a day - plus swimming 2x's a week and at least 120 minutes a week of biking.

Suggestions - diet - lifting - technique? Everything is appreciated

One word - plastics run.

It sounds like you've been doing pretty well for preparation, if you are logging 15-20 miles a week of running.

You might want to look at Hal Higdon's Training Plans. They worked well for me.
http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/index.htm

Get some 10-11 mile training runs in on Sundays, and make sure to get some rest days in (which it doesn't sound like you're getting now)

Personally, I would drop some of the non-running training for the next month, and make sure to get the running hours in.

Make sure your shoes are good. If they getting close to 300-400 miles, get new ones now, so that you can get used to them.

Train?

Nine weeks is adequate, but not particularly ideal for half marathon training. I'm about to start a 16-week training plan for the Houston Half Marathon on January 18th...

Running "2-5 miles a day" isn't going to cut it. Maybe you can look at something with a little structure like Hal Higdon's training plans. Not sure exactly where you are, but maybe you could jump into Week 3 of his Novice plan...

Good luck, let us know if you need any help with specifics...

Since you don't have a lot of time to do a full program, you may want to mess around with the Runner World Smart Coach program ( http://www.runnersworld.com/) Easily found on the front page of there site.

You can change how many weeks you have to go, along with other info to get a basic program to follow.  I used it for my first half mary earlier in the year and still had enough time to work on my swim and get in the occasional trainer ride for tri season, not to mention I finished my first road half mary in comfortable fashion.

 Good luck

Running is not my strong suit - I love the water and I bike to work all the time - so I am a little worried about my running. All the running I do is on trails too. I live right next to an awesome park! I will check out the programs suggested. I think 8 weeks is enough time - although 12 would be ideal. Thanks 4 the help!

You're already running every day - that's better than many people. Work your way up from 2-5 per day to a consistent 5 every day. Take one day per week and start adding mileage, building up from your current 5 to 12-13 over the time you have to train. That would put you around 40 miles/week, which should be more than sufficient to have a decent half marathon.

I run every day too. Rest days are overrated!

If your planned half marathon is on  pavement you may want to do some of your training on similar surface to get used to it before the race.
