If anyone missed it, the men's ITU race yesterday was amazing and the lead group was able to stay away from the pack on the bike.  An amazing race!

"The quintet were away and gone on the bike before Frodeno could latch onto the back of them, and working hard the leaders quickly opened up a 40 second gap. The large group of chasers included all of the pre-race favourites, but they could not orchestrate a successful routine to share the workload and pull themselves back into the race. By second transition the advantage was stretched to two minutes and the podium positions were quickly made unassailable as Brownlee, Gomez and Petzold took off in full flight."

yeah Brownlee won it on the bike, still he had to back it up with the 6th (or was the 7th?) fastest run of the day. I love ITU racing and this guys are the amazing triathletes.

You can see highlights here: http://www.triathlon.org/?call=TVRBeQ==&keep=sh and the full race should be available on the ITU and universal sports websites soon!

I watched this on TV yesterday... yesterday's race dispelled the theory that the bike doesn't matter... have seen a thread here and there on it.

One thing I liked seeing was at the first water station on the run, Brownlee went to grab water but missed it... the guy behind him (Petzold?) did get some, and offered some to Brownlee.  That kind of thing is one of the cool things about triathlon and triathletes, even at that level, sportsmanship is alive and well.

Brownlee is amazing and should be a real threat for the gold in London!

6th fastest run and I imagine he could have put down the fastest run if he had needed to (like in Madrid); however, once you have the lead on Gomez in the final km, might as well cruise it in for the win

I really just wanted to point out to those who believe that swim/bike breaks never work in ITU racing and that they might as well just run a 10k on the track to decide the winner that perhaps that's not always the case.

That was an amazing race to watch from start to finish.  I couldn't get over how fast they moved period.  I know I'm slow but compared to them when I'm "moving" that's a slow walk!  Very cool race though.  More details in that race coverage than any IM coverage I've seen.

The water things happens in long distance(marathons) running races all the time. They all grab a waterbottle and just hand it around.

Brownlee is pretty amazing.  He looks even younger than he is... babyface Brownlee   It was pretty cool to watch him drop Gomez and Petzold on the run.  Great stuff.
