Subject: 5k Scam

You may have seen a 5k run in Piedmont Park posted on Active.com or another site for July 25, in addition to other dates, and other cities, being hosted by Movfitness.  After some investigating, it seems these runs/races are bogus.  All the reviews of all the previous 5ks all say the same thing.  They advertise the race, then cancel the night before via email.  And of course, no refunds.  Their phone number goes directly to a voicemail suggesting you email them instead, and give an invalid email address.  The one or two events that have taken place are more like group runs.  No timing, or organization whatsoever.  Unfortunately, Active.com has still not removed them from their site, but there is an effort to get them to do so.  Read the reviews posted under all their races listed on Active for more details on this scam.

Jeez - you'd think Active would check these out and be sure they're legit before allowing on line registration.  What on earth does they fee they charge go to if not stuff like this???

That would require effort...something that Active has not shown an inclination to do.

I wish I could find Active's servers so I could bash it with a baseball bat.  When I first signed up it sent me to that "Get X% off registration" and made it seem like it was a free sign up thing.  I figured they'd flood my email with mail but I gave them a email where I expect that stuff to happen.  turns out Active took my CC info and gave it to them and they charged you.  I looked up that thing and found out it was a giant scam.

You'd think someone could come out there with something better.

That's horrible. I hate Active. Cycling uses bikereg and truesport.com a lot for registration. They also have runreg or athletereg.com
Anyway, I dislike Active and wish people would move away from it.

Another crappy active post. The 13.1 in Atlanta is posted on Active for 70.00 now. When you link to the 13.1 web from active and chose register it takes you to a different signup site for 55.00 till the end of august.
