Pre-race routine:

up at 5:15...coffee and a glass of water. got dressed, etc. drove to pick up my friend. ate a luna bar, had some more coffee.
Event warmup:

a very easy 5 min. warm up with stretching. my back was very tight from being on my feet (barefeet) all day yesterday. had a nervous tinkle, then lined up and chatted until the start

Comments:

went out way too fast (6:58 1st mile) and had hard time catching my breath. I know better, but I felt strong, besides my breath. At mile 2 I got some water and walked 10 steps to drink it and caught my breath.
What would you do differently?:

Well, I got a PR, so I hesitate to say. But, I really started too fast. I need to get a visor for sunny races.
Post race
Warm down:

cheered my friend on in, stretched, ate some watermelon, drank some water and took off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

it was a really hot freaking morning, but I don't know if I could've gone any faster...My best 5K time is 23:39, so I'm darn pleased with what I did!

Event comments:

I love this race...we started about 15 minutes late-there was an accident nearby that held some folks up. It was really hot and humid by start time. I was dripping before even starting. One guy passed out at mile 1. He was treated at the race probably for dehydration. There were lots of volunteers and smiling faces. Great crowd support-lots of cheers.

Hey Mimi,

Great job on the PR. A 23 minute 5k is really fast. And 4th in your age group. Nice. You go girl. Next year I bet that you'll be first.

Congrats,
Jen

Mimi, you never told me you were a wild woman with the 5Ks!!  We'll need to get together and do some running together.  Great job overall and congrats on the PR!
