Subject: Etiquette Question
I went to an early morning spin class at my local gym as the first half of a brick.

A substitute instructor was leading the class. I have sat through a class of his before and nearly fell asleep. The guy basically...sucks. He couldn't raise the heart rate of a meth addict on a three day bender!!!

So my question is: When our schedules are so tight and time is so limited, is it inappropriate to sit in the back of a spin class and just do a tempo ride at your own pace while ignoring the leader's instructions?

I rarely do this, but in this case I felt like I had to or I would be wasting a whole session.

Thoughts?

I say do  your own workout...its your body and you are training for your race.  Just don't be obvious about it to the point of being rude.

I think it's ok, but I'd let the instructor know your intentions before the class starts, so he/she doesn't just think you're having problems...

You can do it this way too. Dial the bike so it's darn hard to pedal and go through the workout in a "Smash a Coackroach" level. It looks like you are playing along but you are doing your thing. It makes everyone happy. No you aren't going to get your cadence up but your heartrate wil BOOM BOOM

Thanks, everyone!!!

Great thoughts. I love your ideas.

I just hate losing any time from a tight schedule.

Too busy to mess around.

"He couldn't raise the heart rate of a meth addict on a three day bender!!! "  Wow, this guys sucks big time!

The heck with etiquette, it's your workout time and if this guy can't cut, cut him out.  Just sit in the back and do your own drill.
