Swim
Comments: now that i see the race results, i'm even happier with my swim. woo hoo! guess the coaching paid off. What would you do differently?: Still could have pushed harder and gone faster and been more agressive, but I was a bit timid since this was my first race. Transition 1
Comments: My T was slooooow. What would you do differently?: Consider running in suit. Set stuff out in order of what will go on first. I had practiced the transition, but I was pretty pokey when I practiced. Could really speed this one up. Bike
Comments: My time was better than I thought. Could have been faster (19 mph would have been better). Felt really good on the bike. Was passed by a few people right at the start, then passed a ton of people on the rest of the ride. Made me feel more confident since I knew I wouldn't be dead last. Also, since my dad did the bike portion on a team 15 years ago, it was nice to be thinking of him during the ride. He was at the finish line to cheer for me! What would you do differently?: Again, could have pushed harder than I did. Transition 2
Comments: Again, slooow. Need to practice more to get good at doing all of this stuff with some speed! Run
Comments: Was getting hot by the time I started the run. Could have had more to drink. Running is not my strong suit. What would you do differently?: Um, run every day until my next race? Ugh...I knew my running needs work but now I really know it needs MAJOR work. Would also stretch during T2. I was tight, so I had to stop and stretch about a 1/2 mile into the run. Lost some time there. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Had half a banana, some water. Kissed my husband and my kids! What limited your ability to perform faster: This was my first race, so I wasn't sure how much I should hold back in order to not bonk on the run. Could have pushed harder. More sleep would have been good. Also, we were at an out of town wedding last weekend, so my life has been hectic. If things had been more calm in general, I probably could have done a bit better. Event comments: Its my first race, but I think it is a good one. It is so pretty in northern Minnesota. Last updated: 2004-04-06 12:00 AM

Friday night - nervous, little sleep, fighting cold. Saturday night - hot bath, tea, massage, warm milk - slept pretty well. Morning - Clif bar and Emergen-C. Got to the race at about 6:45 for body marking. Set up transition station.
Walked around. Did some ashtanga yoga to get warmed up and stretched out. Clif shot and more Emergen-C right before the swim.
