Subject: Sharing the blog with non-registered people
Ron,

I was interested in sharing my blog with family who are not registered BT'ers so that they can watch my progress on their own (without calling me and always asking how training is going).

Is there a way to share a blog to a non-registered user or did I just miss it in the help section?

Thanks
Shaun

Shaun, there currently isn't a way to do this. I don't know of a way to differentiate between an authorized non-registered user and a non-authorized non-registered user. How do we tell the difference between a family member and someone just browsing the site?

The only things I can think of is that they register for a BT account OR there be an option to make blogs viewable to the general public like Blogger etc.

So now we're talking about 3 potential levels of privacy:

1- Anyone, registered on BT or not, can view your blog
2- Only BT registered users can view your blog
3- Your blog is private with the option to allow specific BT users access to view it.

Am I correct in thinking that anyone can view a training log, but only registered users can post comments?

I have my Training Logs url on my Team in Training fundraising page so that donors can check on my training.

Related but remedial question: how do I create a hyperlink in html so that all one has to do is click on it?

This will be resolved this week as a new setting in your log control panel to let unregistered users browse your logs.

I will update.

Write it like this: (I've clicked the "disable html" option on this post so you can see the html):

This is a link to <a href=http://www.google.com>Google</a>.

OK.

Another level of permission HAS BEEN ADDED:

Just go into your 'training settings' screen and click on the third box to enable 'guests' (non-logged-in users to view your logs...freinds, family.)

Remember, your log address is similiar to the following except using your own user ID#

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/index-weekly.asp?memberid=3

Which can be found when clicking on your own 'training log' and noting the URL

Okay, along these lines (not to beat a dead horse) but I was talking with another BT'er this weekend and we had an idea...

Can you add another box like the overall comments box that allows us to type something and ONLY have it show up to our eyes and not visitors to our blog (including other BT'ers)?  For example, lots of us female types would like to note our cycles in our logs for the purpose of remembering how it affects our training, etc.  However, we don't like the entire world of BT knowing about it   But if we had an extra comments box that we could put private stuff in, we could safely log it and not scare unspecting male BT'ers who come to our logs to say hello.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for all the updates to the logs....they rock   I especially like the rumblings that maybe there might eventually be device upload capability
