I picked up a treadmill to get more serious about running this winter, but am quickly developing leg issues.

Is there a particularly outstanding place to get advice on shoes in the Toronto north area? I have yet to see anywhere around here with a treadmill, let alone video camera for gait analysis. If shoes can help I could really use the assistance, preferably before I do damage out of my own newbie ignorance.

Massive thanks in advance for any assistance.

Not sure if they do a treadmill gait analysis but Running Free is in Markham - not too far north of Steeles (i think there are others north, i just haven't been to them).

Running Room won't do the treadmill analysis but they will look at you walk and run both in bare feet and the different shoes you try on (based on your bare foot assessment) - there's one at North York Ctr and all around.

You could also ask the guys at Enduro Sport @ Leaside for a recommendation. You might have to head somewhere else in the GTA for that type of analysis.

Perhaps seeing a pedorthist would be an idea.  These are the professionals who understand it down to a science.   If you have a health plan, they are usually covered.

Thanks for the tip on Running Free, they were very nice folks.

Will see if the new shoes are as nice.

Do you heel strike?  Almost all my running problems ended after I stopped heel striking.

Yes, I heel strike.

I've talked at length to a physio specialist who says there's nothing wrong with it, so I'm not worried in that regard.

Have a lot of weight to lose, so need to stay healthy to be able to use running as a part of the plan. Easier said that done, however.
