Overcast
Total Time = 6h 17m 13s
Overall Rank = 82/127
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 11/15
Pre-race routine:

Everything was packed the night before. Shave and shower. Arrived at TA when it opened, just in case. My daughter forgot her timing chip, so we had to run home. We went to Tim Horton's for a bagel w. llight cream cheese and a coffee. We went back to TA oils bike chains, put our wetsuits and went to athletes meeting.
Event warmup:

light stretching
Swim
  • 52m 31s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

I swam like a pinball. I was all over the place. I couldn't get into a good rythm, my spotting was pathetic, and I could not relax. At the turn around someone grabbed mt anjle and pulled my foot down and I got a bad cramp that kept popping up the rest of the day.
What would you do differently?:

Take my time getting into the water and relax first
Transition 1
  • 05m 13s
Comments:

T-1 went well. I had a gel going from the beach to T1. I lost my ear plugs and googles. ITU set up, s I have friends a couple of feet away cheering, which was fun.
What would you do differently?:

Not lose my googles
Bike
  • 3h 03m 12s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.34 mile/hr
Comments:

I followed my nutrition plan gel every 45 minutes, a honey stinger waffle at the end of each bike leg and 2oz of liquid every 2 miles. I had 24 oz of Tang and 24 oz of Heed. I was very aggressive on the last leg of the bike and had a lot of fun with it. I also kept my head in the race and would pick and pass, so I did not drift off and paid attention to the race.
What would you do differently?:

Train more in the off season, more sufferfest! Learn to pee in the saddle.
Transition 2
  • 03m 44s
Comments:

ITU style TA was great. My wife, kids, parents and 40 friends were a couple of feet away cheering me on. It was an incredible boost. I had a gel, put glide on my feet, put on my Zoots (no socks) and used the porta potty (I had to go since T1)
What would you do differently?:

Learn to pee in the saddle
Run
  • 2h 12m 23s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run maintained a good pace kept my HR a couple of beats above my MAF. It started to rain and hail at my second turn around. I didn't know if I wanted to run faster to get out of it or slower to enjoy it. I did not walk.I did a pick and pass on the run to stay mentally engaged.
What would you do differently?:

I would not wear a fuel belt, it was a pain and they had more than enough water heed and coke on the course for hydration
Post race
Warm down:

ICE BATH!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I swam like a pinball

Event comments:

The race was a great race. 3 Disciplines did a great job on this race. The caterer dropped the ball. IT was nice to have a chiropractor at the finish line.
