Subject: Body marker
Hi
This may sound like a crazy question...but
Im doing my first triathlon in april and was wondering if you have to mark your arms with your number for the swim? If so can anyone recommend a marker as i have really hairy arms so stickers are out of the question

Somewhat depends on the race and how serious they are about enforcing body marking. A sharpie will work

I never really understood the body marking thing. And when you go to a race their always so into it "Body Marking! Are you marked? Marking!"

Is it just so that if you collapse and or die they have an identifier? Because that always seemed incredibly morbid.

They'll have volunteers marking people, so don't stress about bringing your own marker. Good luck at your race

I do always bring a permanent marker with me just in case the lines are out of control and I'm in one of the first waves. In most local races, writing your number on yourself will do in a pinch.

If you are in a race that provides decals for your arm and leg just use a cheapy disposable shaver to shave your arm and leg (just in the area you are applying the decal).

Over the last 3 years each summer I wear the decals through the races and I get a sunburn around the numbers so the numbers remain visible for about a month.
