Subject: RE: 2020 Ironman Gulf Coast 70.3 I didn't realize that this one was rescheduled. I obviously haven't been watching the IM state side races. It was on my shortlist for races when I was looking at 70.3 races 10 months ago but I ultimately decided to make the USAT Nationals my one out of state travel race for 2020 and to do the Redman 70.3 in-state this year. Gulf Coast will be a possibility again in 2021. Especially since my move in the spring will make it about 1/3 shorter drive for me than it currently is. Redman 70.3 was a late September race but was canceled in May. I ended up doing a homemade 70.3 in September with another guy in the state that was signed up for IM 70.3 Agusta. The other guy set up the course and invited anyone who was interested in doing a homemade 70.3 to join him. I was the only person to take him up on the offer and instead of racing it I slowed it down so that the other guy would have someone else on the course that he could see throughout the day. I did get a PR on the 1.2 mi swim which was really encouraging and it wasn't my slowest 70.3 I have done (just the 2nd slowest). The bike leg was a breeze and I thought the run would be too, but the run was a bit of a struggle. I was happy to do a 70.3 this year and feel I am on track to compete at that distance again next year. 2020 is about wrapped up for me. I did my last in-person race October 10. It was a Sprint Duathlon. Since then I have gone run focused to prepare for 15K PR attempt that I will be doing on the 14th of November. I did my first bike trainer ride in over two weeks this morning and it hurt. I definitely am not going to be racing Triathlons any time soon. After my 15K PR attempt, I will take a month off then start back with the slow build leading into the 2021 pre-season. |
