Ronin and I are going over for the sooke Sprint and need to get some time in the saddle as well....so we are planning on riding around 3-4 hours on the island. Anybody that wants to show us where to go would be nice.(...and Leah....thats not to he double hockeysticks)...

Dan

Yay! Finally a ride I can do! I'd be happy to tell you you where to go. Uh.. I mean show you where to go..

We could go along the oceanside to Sidney (through cadboro bay, etc). It's a gorgeous ride, about 2.5 - 3.5 hours return, depending on which roads we take and how fast we go.

Or.. does anyone else have a suggestion?

I would ride with you but I am doing the Sooke Sprint also and it being my first race and still very new I don't want to be all sore. Where would you be leaving from?

For those doing Sooke I will be the first in the pool and most likely the last out.

Sounds like fun, but I'll be in Tdot. It may be the Donut ride for me.

I don't think my cycling is strong enough yet to keep up, the ride would probably be a bit too long for me ... otherwise I'd be in ... and I'll be volunteering at the Sooke Sprint so I'll see you all there (I'll be the little one standing at the entrance to the Seaparc, screaming at the top of my lungs for the cyclists to go right and the runners to go left, and the pedestrians to just stay the he** out of the way!) haha.

Absolutely - if it's too long, feel free to drop off at any point.

Quite frankly, I'm not sure how well I'll do with a 3-hour ride, considering that the longest I've been on the bike in the last 6 months is half an hour. Guess I'd best be getting on my bike this weekend, huh?

I'm considering it ... I've never ridden with anyone before, always training on the trainer with my club or on the roads on my own, or racing ... I'm nervous!
We'll have to see though ... keep me posted with where/when. ;-)

For sure once I get my package I will let you know. The swim is scaring me. My only other tri was 6 years ago in Harrison and was only 400m in the lagoon atleast it is a pool swim and I can stop and rest every 25 m if needed hahaha.

Ach you'll be fine ... my first tri was a pool swim, and I was terrified ... my form was terrible, I got passed by everyone in my lane, and was the second to last out of the pool ... but I got through it - and you will too!!!

Ronin and I are Leaving the 19th in the morning. Probably try and catch the first ferry.

Then go for the ride and go to package pickup and bike check depending on what they want.

Then, we are either staying in Ladysmith or getting a hotel...any cheap ones out there?

Racing in the morning and heading back after the race.

You are planning on staying in ladysmith? I am sure there are some not to expensive places that would make it closer and a lot less driving time

Yeah Ladysmith's quite the drive from Sooke ... there's lots of local hotels much much closer ... anything on the West Shore would be a lot more convenient ...

I've heard good things about this b&b ... never been there, but it's someone that I work with that knows someone who lives out in Sooke ... http://www3.telus.net/gail_welsford/

So, if you guys are coming over on the 7am ferry, that should put you in town for 9ish. Shall we set the ride for 10am, starting at the parking area on Dallas, near Moss? See here:

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1788454

This is the general route I'm thinking of:

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1788379

Or, we could go to the 37km point in Sidney and come back the way we came.

Thoughts, comments?

That's way too far for me to ride ... although I loop around there frequently (live in Swan Lake) I don't generally ride further than 30K ...

Sounds like a plan.

SF, you could meet us at where you want at a time or give one of us your number and when we get a few k away, we could call you..then you could do your loop.

I like the ride route...

Of course. And as stated above, you're more than welcome to drop off at any time.

Quite honestly, I don't know if I'll make the full ride, seeing that I've been on my bike only a handful of times in the last 6 months. That's why I did the map, so folks can take it along with them and not get lost.

Just let us know when you peel off as we would not want to lose anybody.

If people are going be coming  and going, we might head up t o the end of the peninsula and back then. Give us around 100k.

How fast are we going to be going? I might jump in for a bit then head out towards Sooke as I have a 6 hour ride on tap for that day. Let me know though, it would be good to meet some of you guys.
Cheers,
Mike

Shawn I'll peel off with ya after a shorter ride ... I'm really not up to a long ride, I haven't even had my bike out on the roads yet this year (although hopefully this afternoon will change that, if I can find a fresh tube).
I'm a beginner too, sort of .. this is my second year doing tri's, have 3 under my belt, but my cycling really really sucks. ;-(

Sounds good I will look for a sitter and hopefully I will be in for a quick ride. My longest ride ever is only 65K and that took me 2.5 hours not looking for anything like that ahahha
