Yes... unless I do the Greenwich swim.  I will generously offer New Haven as a launching point and can coordinate with Shoreline Sharks. 20-40 miles will be a good last ride before Park City.

This is the Shoreline Sharks "Holliday Hell" Ride.  Lots of hills.  I would modify it to remove a few hills and start/finish at Yale Bowl (unless I am swimming in Greenwich)

Possible hilly 28 miler stating and ending at Yale Bowl.  I can easily adapt this to be longer

Im in! I will be racing the next day, so be nice!!..If Jeff ends up doing the Greenwich swim and the masses want  I could easily make a route out of Madison/Guilford as a back up. (grew up in that area)

You're killing me. Okay - i already told jeff i probably couldn't make it due to a tennis tourney, but since it's right near my house if it doesn't conflict with saturday's match i'm in. My partner will just have to do more running

This is a route i used to do a lot last year. It' basically the beginning of the 40 mi Sharks route Jeff posted (where all the big hills are). There's ice cream at the turn-around

Ok, so we all agree on Aug 8th

We all agree New Haven is a great central location.

Where is the Yale bowl??

We have a variety of routes, we probably should keep the hills on the lite side, we don't want to kill Kelli's and Beth's legs the day before a race.

the earlier the better for me.

Do i hear 7am???

earlier??

later??

It's starting to sound like Woodbridge, Bethany area isn't the place (very hilly). I see a couple people coming from South Eastern CT (Old Lyme, Groton). It might make more sense to do something on the other side of the Q like Branford or Guilford. Still in the NH area. Thoughts ?

Actually - i just had one thought, does anyone know how early traffic starts building up going over the Q on Saturday mornings in the Summer ?

Whats the Q? the bridge in Branford?..My dad goes in from Madison at 6 to avoid traffic..Im not really concerned about traffic that early in the morning (assuming we are riding at 7..although the princess in me would much prefer another half hour of sleep if no one minded 7:30!?! New Haven should be fine as long as someone knows where they are going!..AND there aren't alot of hills!! God knows Rudy has hauled his butt up to our stomping grounds plenty-0-times!! He deserves a break!

You guys should thin about riding madison, guilford, branford area along the shoreline if you want to keep the hills in the moderate range and keep the location centralized.  The people wanting to tackle more hills could easily break off and shoot up one of many roads to take you 10-15 miles north off the shoreline where there is plenty of hill work to be done.

I live in Guilford but won't be making a Saturday ride (baby duty), but there is decent riding to be had.  Most of 146 in Guilford was just repaved too so it's looking good from Stony Creek in Branford all the way through town in Guilford...and then route 1 into madison, turn down towards the SurfClub and take Middle Beach along the water and then pop out and head over to Hammonasset...It's a nice ride if you've never done it.  Sometimes the winds can kick off but the hills are light..

I'm jealous...I'd like to get in a really long ride on Saturday but I can't...

This is what i'm saying. Shoreline = Flat.
I was going to suggest Milford/West Haven Beach - but thought Branford/Guilford/Madison would be better for SE CT peeps. I also think it's nicer over on that side of the Q (Quinnipiac River Bridge) - yes the bridge on I-95 in New Haven.
The traffic does get heavy on the weekends in the summer heading up toward the beaches (RI & Cape Cod). So it would those of us heading north that would have to worry about traffic (ie. Rudy).

Thanks for your input Jayson!  I think you should get the daddy bike out with the bike seat and join us anyway!..You're fast and it would make the playing field even!:p

That said, here's an option for a bike route I made out of east haven/ branfordish..basically hugs the water and do parts of rt146 (can be a busy road in some areas).. Im familiar with Guilford, kinda sorta but less so with Branford but hey just keep taking a right and follow the water,no?

I know nothing about Lions park where I started the routes at or what that area is like, but if its a park Im assuming there is parking there!

Like I said.. just an option..if anyone has a better idea or wants to stick with New Haven bowl thats fine by me!

FYI, I live right on Mulberry Point Road in Guilford which your route goes by. I run the Mulberry > Sachems Head loop alot, but I don't really ride it because the road that connects Sachems Head to Mulberry (West Lane I think it's called), is actually gravel and pot holes for about a quarter mile and I'm scared to get flats. It is pretty though and they are building a few massive houses on that part of the road...I just thought I'd let you know that you will have to go really slow for about a mile in total until you get all the way back on to Mulberry Point. If I were you, I would pass that turn and continue straight back to 146...just my opinion....Moose Hill is a pretty hilly road, but that is about it on the route you've chosen besides a couple rollers on 146...if you don't want to climb at all I'd scratch that...but it is a short road and you'll be done with it pretty quick...Also, don't be nervous about where 146 intersects with route 1 and the route 1 stretch into Madison. It has a decent shoulder and no stop lights so you can segway the couple miles into the beach ride along Madison really easily without worrying at all. It is actually a nice fast stretch of road that I can hold 24mph on usually...Stony Creek in Branford is pretty, Sachems Head is beautiful along that road...I don't usually go out as far into Branford as you're starting though so can't comment on that...I favor Madison instead...Have fun!

Oh thanks Jay!..if we end up using that route..no West rd. ! I could adjust it going over to Madison instead of Moose Hill Rd if peeps want, as I agree its a nice road along the beach there. ..was just trying to avoid too much RT. 1 with a bigger crowd!

I'm skipping the Greenwich swim if there is going to be  a BT New Haven ride!  I rode 50 miles of hills the day before Ridgefield, Kelly will just have to cowboy up!

Seriously, if people would prefer a shoreline loop here is an option http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ct/new-haven/593346543 this is a one-way ride, but we break it off at Short Beach on Branford and loop back, can even go up Route 17 and go back through Hamden.  I can also make something up.  Out to Madison is almost 60 miles round trip from NH

95 will have light traffic on a saturday morning in both directions..
