Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 I know, I know, I know. DECEMBER?? Are you freakin' kidding me? Yeah, well, I'm And in this challenge, we work on our limiter. You define limiter. Standard options would be swim, bike, or run (not buying transitions!). Could also include injury rehab/PT, ST, core, etc. If there is call for it, I would leave it up to a panel of judges on other sports. The point is to focus entirely on ONE thing that you need to get better at. No fair putting down alpine skiing because you love it so much and are out there five days a week so hey, easy peasy challenge win! Uh-uh. What is it that you dread doing the most? Do it! Remember to include Christmas/Channukah/Kwanzaa/Solstice/Eid/COJ in your goal setting. Stealing a good idea and saying anyone not at 30% by the midpoint of the month is booted. Coal in your stocking/dreidle/incense/lamp/posts! |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 Just one limitor? My swim is slow. Bike...having a bike focused winter plan and an awesome new ride is improving that already. Run...two torn hip flexors. Pick a weakness for me, they all look bad from where I sit |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 You can set whatever goals you'd like. I do sessions because it keeps me honest. There are only so many days I can run so I can't put it off. If I went by mileage, I'd try to do crazy long runs to make up for it. Not healthy! Now now, Queen Zipp, if I picked for you, that'd be cheating! Sounds like either swim or bike, though, from what you've posted. Not sure running on torn hip flexors is a good idea! |

Extreme Veteran 477 | Subject: RE: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 Sounds good to me. I need to work on running would like to swim, but the pool will be closing for repairs for about 2 months. Nearest other pool is 45 min from home, 1.5hours from school. |

(I'm thinking it's running. And biking. And swimming. Other than those three, everything is just peachy.) :P Hm. One limiter. Yeah. I'll need to give this some thought. Good thing you posted the challenge early. LOL |

Well, I'm doing a bike focused 8 week program from the site after the half mary (I'm still doing it tomorrow, torn hip flexors and all-I rested from running x10 days and am antsy to try).
However, I was looking forward to the December swim challenge so my challenge goal will be swim focused and my personal goal will be bike focused. (at least til I get cleared to run again and yes, I do have the docs permission to run the half) |

Extreme Veteran 398 Southeastern Michigan | Subject: RE: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 I really need a challenge...I am going to see if I can get in on this one! If you look at my training log, you will see that I am training great! I am working hard...no excuses in all areas except ONE! My eating habits SUCK! I have been gaining weight ever since an achilles tendon injury in late summer. I gain weight even though I do two training sessions a day on most days. I know the higher weight will make me slower and I am not happy but I just can't seem to change my eating habits. The holidays will be tough on me if I don't do something about it now! I can just see myself shoving all that holiday food in my face! THE HORROR!!! Let me know if I am in and what I need to do (i.e. more specific goals?)... |

Haven't quite hit that yet, so should be interesting. |

Member 26 Ames,IA | Subject: RE: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 I think the swim is my weakest event. I swam 500 yards the other day and stopped every 25 to rest.... But I'm doing an Olympic in June, so I should be to 0.93mi in 26-30 min by then.... Is there a penalty for treading water if I'm not in the way? Hoping to get a good bike in January. The old exercise bike in the basement doesnt have a conversion kit for road use. And the $50 'Dodge Viper' 10 speed in the garage isn't gonna get me a top 10 finish in my age group........ I know, I'm destined to injure myself aren't I......? Remember: Bad days are just there to remind you what the good ones are REALLY feel like!

Extreme Veteran 877 Pa | Subject: RE: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 I'm in for this one. My mental limiter is swimming. I will have to think about a goal. I have only run 3 times since August 16th and finally got the ok to start running a little again, so I may have some goal(s) related to that. |

Veteran 182 Hillsboro, OR | Subject: RE: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 I'm in. I really need some motivation and hopefully this will do it. My goal for 2008 was to qualify for Age Group Nationals. Did not make it and have been moping around ever since mid September. Took most of October off from structured training thinking that maybe I was burned out, but have not been able to get back into the groove. So I definitely need a challenge to get my training jump started. Running is my limiter, but I think that is mostly because I'm absolutely pooped by the time I get to the third leg of the tri. I'm going to focus on building a good foundation in December with strength training and core workouts.

Elite 3067 Cheesehead, WI | Subject: RE: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 I'm a slow runner and my endurance for swimming could be improved. I could really use work on both but because January is usually a snowy mess here; I should probably use December for running outside and then look to January for swim work. Put me down for improving my 5 mile distance time. |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 Wow, lots of different responses! Cool! After chatting with Bronwyn1968, I'm torn between continuing to work on my running limiter, which is what I'd planned on doing, or getting myself to FINALLY start tracking my food again. Hmmm. Maybe I'll see what other challenges pop up. |

This is me - I eat "good" for 2-3 days and then "bad" for 4-5, get fed up and the cycle repeats. With less training in the off season this isn't working out so well. And with the holdiay's coming up and all the "goody's" that get delivered to the office, well, I need something to keep me honest! So I'm in. |

LOL! I ate three good meals today and got so hungry that I left work early to go get something else to eat! I NEED this challenge! Slugger - So you are thinking about eating over running, eh? I am doing everything but using this for the one thing that is the hardest for me. What is the hardest for you to do? Work on running or Log your eating? |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 Bronwyn1968 - 2008-11-18 5:35 PM Slugger - So you are thinking about eating over running, eh? I am doing everything but using this for the one thing that is the hardest for me. What is the hardest for you to do? Work on running or Log your eating? Tracking my food is definitely harder, though running is very much my focus right now. I don't have internet at home and have established a good pattern of making my food (rather than eating out of a box). Unfortunately, those two combined make tracking VERY difficult. Also, working at night throws the whole thing off, and I've never overcome that pretty substantial block. With some other issues going on with me right now, tracking might be TOO much of a challenge - I need to get some other stuff under control without that much added stress. But, it might be a really good motivator to jump start me into some other healthier habits. As you can see, I'm quite torn! I'm in the crappy weather challenge, too, and really far behind because of how warm it has been here, so I might use that one for my running and this one for tracking. Good thing I have awhile to decide! |

Elite 3067 Cheesehead, WI | Subject: RE: The Limiter Challenge - Dec 2008 OOOOOOoooooh!? Foodie challenge???!?!? If I could cut out ice cream, no wait... at least cut down ice cream I'd easily drop a couple of lbs. I eat ice cream every day! I mean EVERYDAY! Every night...like NOW, I get a bowl of ice cream and yum...ENJOY it...but do you think I'd leave well enough alone?!?!? NOOOOOO! So I go get ANOTHER bowl.... EVERY freakin' night! HA! LOL... It would suck a bit but dang, I gotta get down on my cholesterol chugging issue |
