Subject: 1st TRI(sprint) Transition Prep Help

Looking for some Transition Prep for Dummies suggestions.  Am looking at doing my 1st Sprint either in 3 days or 10 days.  Not looking for any great transition times; just to avoid some major faux pa's.  Have been running and cycling for years, pretty comfortable with both of those.  Probably going to skip shoes in clips this go around as Murphy and I are close friends.  What's the drying time on a 1pc tri suit vis-a-vis the bike ride?

Check out this video in the articles section of BT under beginners. Really good video on how to set it all up.
Its called VIDEO: Triathlon Transition Setup and Execution, in case the link doesn't work for you.

best advice from Bear i received was:

roll socks off and lay on top of shoes so you can then roll socks back on....

Ride fast and your suit will not dry (just a different wet- sweat) but you will not notice. Same with run leg. I do not notice and I do these in the humid south.

Great video, and very helpful. My first sprint is at the end of the month and I'm not sure I have the dexterity to get into my shoes while I'm riding.

So other than getting to the race way early and getting a spot in transition close to the mount line, any other tricks to avoid running in cycling shoes?

I would practice and see what works for you. In general there are some things that are common to every triathlete but some things might be slightly different. Practice-Practice-Practice. Picture the transition in your mind then go through it for real. Do it several times. In one thread I read said to set up your transition area, dump a bucket of water over your head to simulate coming out of the water, transition from swim to bike. Ride around the block. Come back and transition to the run. Be sure to get off your bike early and run to your practice transition area. Do this over and over. Get comfortable with setting up your area, using to area to go from swim to bike to run, then reset and do it all again.

x2 - set up a transition in your driveway and practice! Your neighbors will look at you funny, but that's ok.

Know in your head the order you will do things. Like... run run run, get to your spot... What's the first thing you'll do? Put on your helmet, or your sunglasses, or your shoes? Figure it out and memorize it. Think about it as you're finishing the swim and finishing the bike. What's the first thing you're gonna do? Then the next?

PS good luck at your first tri!!
