Subject: Chafing
I'm embarrassed to post this, but I need help. I am the queen of the chafe. Part of it is losing weight and having extra skin that just didn't go back to wear it should be. One of the biggest areas happens on the back of my leg where it hits the saddle and rails. Yeouch is right. I have been wearing compression shorts under my cycling shorts and lube up before the long training rides, but I still come back with welts. And no, it's not the particular saddle. They all do this. I have been fantasizing on inventing little pilows but don't think that's a solution.
And yes, the fit is okay too. It's just by Athena body type.
If anyone can think of even a temporary solution, I would be eternally grateful.
I know this is a little unorthodox, but hey, you ARE my community and we are all related so I can share my pain.
Thanks,
Rhonda

Not unorthodox at all, there have been many threads.  Question, are you wearing underwear under your shorts?  If so there's your problem.  If not, you might try A+D ointment from the baby aisle.  I love the stuff personally and haven't had any issues on long rides since I started using it.

I get annoyed is same place...with my new saddle never before. I swear I'm getting callouses or something else there and it has improved a lot in last 4 months.

I slather my bum and that spot especially with Bag Balm then add chamois butt'r on top. After my IM ride Sunday I found sticky stuff on my saddle..bag balm had migrated through my shorts..I found it quite amusing.

Have you tried a gel seat cover? Not sure if it would help just an idea. What position do you do most of your riding in...aero?

Are you sure the compression shorts help instead of making it worse? If you get bike shorts that have power or better fabric they are more supportive and I find they are compressing me enough.

See you at IMFL in 9 weeks is it?

Ditto on the A+D ointment.  The best.

3X on the A&D. I use it on all rides over 2 hours. It stays longer than anything I have ever used.

Also maybe watch the compression shorts for seams? Seams can irritate.

What are you using for lube?  And how much?  Are you applying it directly to where your "issues" are?

Without knowing those answers I would suggest trying a bike-specific chamois cream (Assos, Chamois Butt'r, etc.) over things like A+D, Body Glide, etc.  Use it liberally (the longer your ride, the more you apply) directly onto the areas at issue.

If you're already doing all that, then I'm not much help.

Yeah, I'm already applying. It's not the seams that are chafing, but behind the legs where it hits the saddle. I guess I'm afraid this may be the only one it happens to. I'm such an oddity.
