So, I am out at the beach this week, and I haven't cycled until today and boy did I pick the WRONG day to ride. I had to take a serious dose of HTFU juice and pedal my heart out. Winds were at 16 mph with gusts up to 21-23 mph. OMG, the tail wind for 3 miles was awesome. The headwind was darn brutal. Needless to say, I am so blessed sore tonight and I crashed when I got back from my little 10 mile ride. My triathlon is a 9 mile ride and I went out for speed work and just putting the hammer down. The wind would occasionally turn to a cross wind and one time it almost took my front wheel right out from under me. Holy Crap.

Tomorrow is my first jog in probably 3 months.

Also, I had the scare of a lifetime today. I was looking out the back doors of the beach house today and noticed a sea kayak upside down in the water and saw 1 guy on a surfboard. I took off down the back steps and out into the water. All I could think was that someone was upside down in the kayak and couldn't get righted. By the time I hit the water, I saw the guy on the surfboard righting the kayak and then saw the guy with paddle for the kayakabout 50 yards down the beach in the water, trying to get back in.

K~

SOunds like my ride yesterday - Not sure where yo are but here on NC Coast it was quite Breezy and the second half of my ride was into the strong head wind...  Definitely a little tired after that one...

If I ride past noon I can pretty much count on 15 to 20 mph winds on my daily rides. It is depressing when you have to hit 1st gear just to make headway on the flat when the wind really picks up and worry about the wind just picking up the bike and throwing you in a ditch when it is a crosswind. My worst days are when the wind is from the north or south, that means I have a crosswind on me 90 percent of the ride with no tailwind to break it up. I hear if you train in different conditions it helps you as you never know what you will face on race day.

Grats for sticking with it, weather can definately change your workout.

Nice ride. Congrats on getting it done.

FWIW, around here that kind of wind is normal almost any day. We often ride in 25-35 mph winds with gusts up to 50 - especially in the spring and early summer. Kinda difficult when it's a strong crosswind and we're leaning to one side for a long period and then the wind lets up unexpectedly. Haven't crashed yet, but it's been dicey a few times.
