Subject: New Feature: 'New Routes' + Route Finder

In your login area box, we've replaced 'X new links' with 'X New Routes'.

Clicking on the new 'routes' link will bring you to a list of the newest routes WITHIN 60 miles of your zipcode/city if you have that info in your control panel (US only at the moment).  If you are outside of the US or only have country and state selected, you will get the 'new route' updated from your country or state level.

We now have over 30,000 public routes in the database and we have created an improved route searching tool that goes along with the 'new route' updater:

  • By % grade
  • By certain distances
  • By distance from zip
  • By friends routes
  • By keywords

    Do you have any plans to create the function to export a gpx file for these routes - similiar to Motionbased?

    If memory serves me correct, this will be added to the next version of the route tracker which is being sketched-out write now.  So...next year sometime?

    It's also going to be able to export directly to a Garmin unit as a course file.

    Ron,

    1st this is a cool feature, thanks all.

    So how is the order of the listings determined when looking at a category?  I'm looking at the FL bike listing right now and I don't understand how the listing shown are provided.  They do not seem to be by length, or creator or alphabetical order.

    Also I see two listing that I made but the Created By: is listed as something different.  One is the a HIM race course for the FL Challenge that I created in the summer and the other of a ride that I created about 2-3 weeks ago.  Is the 'created by:' based on someone else using the route in a log? As I now see multiple listings of the same route but with different 'created by:' listed. 

    Something that I just noticed, when I go to the other pages for search, after the 1st page only some, or none, of the listings will have the little route map displayed.  When I click back on the (1) 1st page listings all the little route maps are displayed.

    I don't think the 60 mile rule is working, I see listings for rides 80+ miles away from me (e.g. St Augustine, Jacksonville, Clermont).  Not that I care as I prefer it that way as most of the good (read hilly) rides are far away from me.

    THEY ARE INITIALLY LISTED AS NEWEST TO OLDEST ALL ROUTES LISTED WITHING 60 MILES FROM YOUR ZIP/CITY.  ONCE YOU START FOOLING WITH THE SEARCH PARAMETERS AT THE TOP THIS WILL CHANGE.

    YEP.  LOOKS LIKE WE SHOULD PROBABLY FILTER THESE OUT AND ONLY SHOW THE ORIGINAL

    CORRECT.  WE CAN'T 'BACK MINIMAP' ALL OLDER ROUTES...WE CAN...BUT IT WILL TAKE SOME MORE WORK.

    ITS 'AS THE CROW FLIES'...WHICH I ASSUME IS STRAIGHT.  SO FOR EXAMPLE, MELBOURNE TO SANFORD SAYS 80 MILES AWAY IN GOOGLE MAPS FOR DRIVING DIRECTIONS...BUT IT'S A BIG 'Z'...IF YOU MAKE A STRAIGHT LINE IT LOOKS AS IF IT WOULD BE CLOSER TO 60...
