Subject: Shimano 11-27?
Anybody got that new cassette? Is it compatible with the old Shimano Dura Ace? because I don't see a cassette 11-27 on the old Shimano groupset...why they don't add it and sell it only in the new flavour? just for cost reason?

I think you might mean the new 11-28 only in dura ace. 28 was outside the specs of all the Shimano road derailuers until the new Dura Ace group came out this year. I bought a Sram 11-28 last year and used it on my bike with Ultegra group. It was a bit finicky to get it to shift right to both ends of the rear derailuer.

My guess is they are trying to catch up with Sram on the 11-28 and as always improvements go to their top of the line group first and then roll down.

11-28??? never seen that in Shimano. I am referring to 11-27 because 27 came before always with 12 so 12-27.

Can you point me a link reporting the 11-28? I guess with 11-28 I would save some money for switching to compact...

11-28 comes as size 4 on the Shimano DA CS-7900 10-speed.

Size 4: 11-28: 11,12,13,14,15,17,19,21,24,28
163g

SRAM Red has an 11-26

I have not seen a DA 11-27

I live in an area with lots of hills.  have a standard crank (53/39) with an 11-25 cassette.  will an 11-27 keep me in the saddle a little more on those 15-20%ers?

Tough question.  I have a 27 on my tri bike and have only found one hill that it doesn't get me up...or only got me up 50% of the time...and that sucker was brutal...18% for 0.8 miles.  Stupid steep and no way to stay in your saddle.  But I've never ridden a 25...so I can't predict how much more benefit you would get.  Off the top of my head I would say "not much".  Maybe if you currently had a 23 and were movig up to the 27...but if you already have a 25?  Don't think it will help that much...
