I have this new project: www.bikealpharetta.com

Alpharetta has some amazing cycling routes and I think it's time we have an organization like Bike Roswell to serve as an advocate for cycling in our area.

So far, this is a one man show.  I'm hoping to load a few more routes.

But I need ideas for what this could/should be.

Please look at the site and let me know what you think.

Thanks.

That is a great idea!  Your website and the first route looks good.  Here are my suggestions:

  1. Get a bike shop involved.  They can help you set up routes and get volunteers.
  2. Get Alpharetta involved.  You'll need permission to paint the road correctly and their parks and road department can help you implement it and get the word out.
  3. Limit your site to 4 or 5 good routes that are part of the larger route.  One of the things that makes the Roswell Route work is the number of cyclists on the route.  I saw over 100 riders Saturday morning in my first 30 miles.
  4. Connect the Alpharetta Route to the Roswell Route.  I get giddy with all the different distances and types of rides I could create.
  5. Let us know what we can do to help.  There are a ton of people here and on other sites that would lend a hand if you ask.

Combining number 5 and 1, Doug, you should open a bike shop in Alpharetta.  There are none.  LOL

That's a really good list.  I agree, my plan is to post 4 routes.  27 miles, 38 miles, 50 miles (posted) and 80 miles.  Beyond that, I plan to show how one can connect up to the Roswell routes and routes up in Cumming.

One issue I see with getting the city of Alpharetta involved is that the routes go into Milton, Cherokee, etc.  For Bike Roswell, other than Mountain Park, it's mostly Roswell.   So in that respect, I'm not sure I see this becoming the full on advocacy group that Roswell is (I certainly DO NOT want to become Eric Broadwell).

I think this is a great idea also. Doug has some great points, you might try and see if Reality (when Todd recovers of course) or maybe even Roswell Bikes might be on board to support this.

I haven't looked at the site yet, but that ride we did from your house last year was a really good one. You should definitely include that as one of the routes.

I think there is a bike shop in Alpharetta unless it is gone.  .  .I have spaced on the name but a guy named Gervis (sp?) I think owned it. It  use to Peachtree Bikes?-- does that sound right?

I'll ask my dad. He got his bike there a few years ago but I am thinking it is/was off Haynes Bridge in that shopping center on the corner of Haynes and Old Milton. At least I think those are the roads. Sigh, my brain still isn't working yet this morning.

I think the web site is an AWESOME idea and I second what Doug says about connecting the routes to the Roswell routes. Seems like it could be easy enough done--maybe hooking up somewhere around the crabbleapple/silo area on the north of 92 loop. Or head out East on Hembree crossing over HWy9 going out behind the hospital to behind the mall area (like where the Tour de Ga use to go).

http://ridealphabikes.com/    I am not crazy. There is a bike shop in 'phretta:   Alpha Bikes. I assume the page isn't old and it is still there.

Nice site and good idea.  When it gets as popular as BT I will be able to say I was the first person to post on it.

I LOVE this idea - especially since I live in Alpharetta.  There are a lot of bikers around here, and I think if you can get the word out, you would see a lot of support.
