I tried searching previous threads on swim times but didn't find much so in the interest of saving time, I decided just to post.

I hit new PR's last night in my masters class and was wondering how they stack up with everyone.  I know they are pretty decent but are they good enough for a front of the pack time?

These times were taken during our main set which was 1450yds and went something like this..... 2x50 easy, 50 fast, 2x50 easy, 100 fast, 2x50 easy, 150 fast and so on up to 200 yard and then back down the pyramid. My 100yd PR was the last in the pyramid or at the end of the main set so we were pretty tired already.

50yd - 34sec
100yd - 1:23
150yd - 2:20
200yd - 3:12

I think that if one could hold a 1:23 pace for a given race distance, they'd be in the FOP.  Not sure if that was your question... for example, my fastest 100 ever is 1:26, but there is no way on earth I could hold that for a sprint, or even 200 yards, and I am nowhere near the FOP on the swim.

eta after reading cuse's post... guess I need to do different races!!

yes, as long as you define FOP in the top 1/3.

your 200 time is 1:36/100, which was an easy effort (I think based on pattern...)

with a 100 hard effort of 1:23, if you have decent endurance, you should be able to hold 1:35-1:40 for a 750 M sprint, which will put you in top 1/3 of MOST races.

You're way faster than I!  I am NOT a FOPer.

You need to compare with times from races in your area.

I've been about a 1:30/100 yard pace for my last 2 sprint races, including the 750 meter mini-mussel this past weekend with 700 entrants.  In both, I was about the 92nd percentile (In the top 10%).   Between the 2 races, there have been over 1000 participants.  Thats a decent enough sample size for a SPRINT race to give you an idea.

I've held this general pace, or close to it, in some olympic races.  The competition is typically steeper there, and I've usually been about the top 15% to 20% there.

my swim times look something like this right now:

50yrd: 26 sec
100yrd: 1:00
800m: 1:15 pace (open water)
2000m: 1:19 pace (open water)

tihs puts me near the front of pack in big races, in the top 2-3 in med sized ones.

This past weekend I swam an 800 w/o a wetsuit and averaged 1:22 / 100.  I was 35 out of 405 participants.

Although I haven't swam many test sets or hard interval sets recently, I could probably do a hard 100 right now right around 1:00.

I just did a sprint where the swim was 1320 yds. I averaged 58 sec. per hundred.

Oh, forgot to mention, it was in a river and we were swimming with the current. Nevertheless I finished 3/268. :-)
