a 26.2 mi training run is a BAD IDEA imo.  it will take you a while to recover from it [it takes me about 2 weeks to recover from a marathon].  You'll miss too much training while recovering and aside from that it's not necessary... most IM training plans don't have longer than 18 mi.

the 2.4 mi swim and 112 mi bike are a good idea though... nice to get a feel for the water and there is no such thing as too much time in the saddle !

I don't really see a need to all the full distances over a 3 day time frame.  Depending on the timing and where it falls in your training, it could do more harm than good.  If this is your first IM you don't really know how your body will respond to all the training volume- let alone that much volume in a given 3 day weekend.  Most people experience a tremendous amount of exhaustion and fatigue when training for their first- I would be a bit hesitant to do all that in one weekend.

I definitely wouldn't run a full marathon for my IM training- unless of course my marathon was early in the season and I was fully trained for it on a marathon specific training plan and could come off from that and fully recover and then hit the IM specific training hard.  I especially would not run 26.2 after a 112 mile ride.  I would probably swim the distance, and then do a century ride the next day with a short TR off the bike.  I like TR's personally.  If you really wanted to run on Sunday I would "maybe" do a 10-15 mile run.  If you want to get in a really long run in for your training do it a different weekend.  And probably make it 20 miles max.  I'm not sure though with timing when you should get in your longest IM training run- that might be something to think about.  You don't want to peak too soon and be on the downslide on race day.  I'm sure some coaches can enlighten you on this topic.

That's just me though.  I'm not a coach, but I have finished IM #1 and am currently training for IM #2.  So I am somewhat familiar with IM training

I have done the "Ironman Weekend" in training.  However, I would break up the run over the three days.  Maybe 8 miles on Friday, 3 miles off the bike on Saturday, and then 15 miles on Sunday.  My rule of thumb for IM long run training is to never go over 2.5 hours or 20 miles, whichever comes first.  Many people disagree with me on this, but they are just wrong.

Go for an easy 4-6 mile run after your swim on Friday.  Do another 4-6 mile run off the bike on Sat.  Then, on Sunday, ride another 56 or so.  Run again only if you care to do so.  BTW, May can be "early" for LP as far as weather goes.  Of course, you never know what you'll get up there for sure, but I would probably make it late May or wait until June if you can.

Thanks for all of the feedback. We are both seasoned marathoners and have always done at least one day of the distance during training so we knew what our bodies would feel like. We thought that concept might translate to the Ironman, but I am guess that is out of the question. We will definitely take it all into consideration. I do like the idea of splitting the Marathon into three days.

I'd split the run into 3 days, with maybe a 7/5/12 split.
