i'm flat footed, and i overpronate.  I was wondering if any shoe makers make a decent shoe for everyday stuff that still has the support features i need.  I'd hate to spend another 100 dollars on a running shoe to wear every day just to get some support for daily activities.

Wouldn't a motion-control insert do the job?

I buy the inserts I need and replace the ones my shoes come with. A good shoe store or running store should have a variety to choose from.

If you aren't actually in need of prescription orthotics, some off-the-rack inserts I've had luck with (which can be used in pretty much any closed-toe shoe with removable insole) are the "Foot Soldier" brand from KLM Labs and the orange ones from Roadrunner Sports ("Stable Runner III").  Both are no more than $40.  I've had prescription orthotics since 2000 (and had orthopedic shoes as a kid, so this is a lifelong issue for me) and I've been able to actually race up to half marathon distance in the two brands I mention (which saves a little weight vs. my prescription insoles).  They work just as well for everyday wear...just swap them into whatever shoe you're planning to wear.

tcovert, you might be able to save yourself some money.  At least the podiatrist I had to go to because of my plantar facitis said the new insoles that are available in general are as good as what he could send out for.  That might not be the case for the extreme, but I have become a believer in the insoles.  Never again will I go with the manufacturers insole.
