Cute guy at the pool last night,

You gave me such a nice sight!

You have such nice psyique,

And you get an A+ for your swim technique.

Even though your breast stroke was faster than my free,

I'm sure we'd get along great- because after all, how could you not like me?

I like to swim bike and run,

And I've been told I'm alot of fun!

It's too bad you'll be out of town for 4 weeks,

Don't worry- you're my favorite tri geek!

Until you get back I'll just hang tight,

And maybe in month you'll be in my sight!

All right, admit it: If a guy did this, it would be creepy, but for whatever reason it's OK when a girl does it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the ones that thinks it's OK. I just don't know why!

I agree- us girls can do stupid thing like what I did and it's cheesy and funny.  If a guy wrote something like that- might be creepy, but could be funny depending on whether or not he's serious. If he were serious- then yes, it would be creepy.  My intention wasn't to be creepy- just to humor ya'll on a Friday!

Agreed. It's the presumption of being chessy or being creepy, though. With a girl, it's assumed she's being funny. With a guy, it's assumed he's being creepy. Both have to prove otherwise to change the initial assumption. Damn double standards!!!! That's it. Any BT ladies I happen to meet in person MUST offer to pay for my beer to counter balance this injustice.

LOL!  Now of course I would never EVER tell the cute at the pool that I ever wrote a poem about him and posted it on BT for entertianment.  He would think that's creepy!

Why are there always so many conditional statements when women evaluate what a man is doing?!?!

Never mind about the dog ... ask him out! You are pretty darned "cute" yourself so I cannot imagine that he would balk at the prospect.

Sorry- it wasn't you.  I was talking about Larry- and yes, we did exchange names   I don't particulary care for his name, but I could look past that.  I could call him by his middle name or somehting.  Larry just makes him sound like an old man- that he is not.

No- I refuse to ask a guy out.  Reason being, the past 2 times I had been talking to guys on a regular basis and almost invited them to hang out, I later found out they had girlfriends.  They never threw the girlfriend card out in any conversation we had.  Some guys are sneaky!

See, that's the wrong idea. When a girl asks me out, even if I'm not attracted to her, I'll always do it. If I'm not into her, I'll make it clear that I'm not romantically interested, but I'm a big believer in rewarding that sort of courage. Hey, it's just dinner, and you never know when you'll become good friends with someone that way.

Here's to casual dating! May the concept not be lost to the ages!

Luckily I found out about the grilfriends those guys had BEFORE asking them out.  But those situations have bascially deterred me to never even think about asking a guy out.  If I were to ask a guy out, it would be because I want to get to know him better to see if I would even want to date him.

OMG - funny story . I will never, ever forget the local city paper totally making fun of my roommate and I for sending them a poem like this so they might pick us for this double date thing they were having. We made up (what we thought) was a hilarious tongue and cheek thing about the woes of singledom. Months after we submitted it, they featured the best and the worst submissions and the uubergeek ugly girl (methinks) who went through all the letters gave us a "corniest dumb girls from the 'burgh award" And, even though she did not at the time publish any of our info, we felt so wronged. Ouch. Still hurts.

I don't get it. Who cares? If you ask and he mentions that he has a girlfriend, no harm done. If he doesn't mention it and you find out, then you just drop him. I was on a date with a woman that was older than me that didn't mention that her divorce hadn't been finalized yet...when I found out, that was that. Not something I can control, not something I did wrong intentionally, I just moved on.

Your last sentence was more what I was thinking...though you being a girl, I can imagine guys don't understand that very well.

Yeah- I don't think guys realize that I want to hang out with them to actually get to know them better and not necessarily date them.  Oh well...

Ok ya'll- here's an update.  Apparently my poem worked.  Because since I've written that poem, I've talked to himn numerous times at the gym.  Before my 1/2 IM, he mentioned that we'd have to hang out after my race.  Well, since my race I haven't been spending much time at the gym because I've been lazy recovering.  But I bumped into him in the parking lot at Borders Wednesday night.  He asked me what I was doing this weekend and asked me if I'd want to do something.  He got my number and said he'd call.  Well, he actually called me today and we went out for dinner.  After dinner we grabbed coffee at Starbucks and then hung out at the bookstore.  He told me to call him if I want to do something like catch a movie this weekend.  So....looks like I'll have to write another poem for him since this is the first good date I've been on in a LONG time.
