Long-Sleeved Wet Suits

Expert  1226    Chicago |  Subject: Long-Sleeved Wet SuitsSo...I'm getting a LS Wet Suit as my first-ever wet suit (mostly because that's what I won...). Just how warm will I get in this thing in the water in the summer? I'm looking forward to using it in my half iron this June, I'm just worried about getting too warm. Or should this not even be a concern? I know it'll be perfect for my cold water tri next month...I just want to make sure I've made the right decision. Thoughts? (probably a dumb question, but the fact I'm actually going with a LS wetsuit is a pretty big deal to me. |

It really depends on the water temperature, though. Around here, they're not allowed if the water temp is higher than about 75 or so. In the rare race where they were allowed and I wore it in temps that high, I was uncomfortably hot in it. I have a very clear memory of every time I'd put my head in the water while swimming, of thinking "ahhhh... cool water..." At the same races where I wear my LS wetsuit, there are more than plenty of other people wearing the same. I wouldn't worry about it. |

Unless you are at the hairy limit...like Bermuda this past year. Water temp was right at 78 degrees. It got pretty warm in the wetsuit! |

Thats plenty warm for some people, so if you really don't like being hot, you probably won't even use it at that race. |

Master 1420 Reston, VA | Subject: RE: Long-Sleeved Wet Suits I really dislike being hot in a wetsuit as well but always wear mine where legal (with the exception of a sprint under 500 yards) as it makes me faster. Test wearing the wetsuit in warmer, wetsuit legal temps and try letting in a little water when you warm up - you will be surprised how much it will cool you down and you will still have the benefits of a wetsuit in your race. |
