Yeah, you've already figured out what this is about. So what do you do to keep water from spraying out of the top of the Profile water bottle? The yellow net-like thingy that came with mine has proven more or less useless.

Oh, and what is the point of the huge hole in the lid that creates this problem in the first place? I understand that air needs to get in, but for that purpose, the hole could be a lot smaller. A valve would work too... But maybe the huge hole serves some other purpose as well?

The large filling hole is to make filling "on the fly" easier, by taking bottles handed up at aid stations and pouring them in - larger target to hit.

FWIW, the new generation of Profile bottles come with a cap and solve your problem, but I don't think the caps can be retro-fitted onto older bottles.

I don't fill mine to the top - maybe withing a couple of inches from the top, and unless I'm riding on the roughest of surfaces, I get no splashing using the yellow net, and I have no cap on mine.

New bottles work better but not 100% fixed.

They have caps that have a circle inside cover that is cut so you can refill on the fly but I also loose the inside part often. Profile sent me a replacement before IMLP and since then I have gotten proficient at making my own.

I'd suggest investing in a new one. They have two types..one like you have one chamber for one type of drink and another one with two chambers so you could have Gatorade and water both in your aero bottle.

Face spritzer I vote for older models!

I've seen so many little yellow sponges on the bike course by the bumps in the roadway.

This is slightly ghetto, but it worked for me.  I have the new style with the lid.  Even though there is a lid, it still leaked.  I took the plastic lid off a yogurt container (any soft plastic will do), and cut a piece to fit inside the lid.  It took a bit of work to punch holes to match the ones on the lid, but it works fine now.  Virtually no splash.  I still use the yellow pouf too.  We have some really bumpy roads around here.  I've also seen something rigged up with duct tape, but that's way more ghetto than a yogurt lid.  Laughing

I stick the yellow sponge in the bottle first, but pull a bit of it over the lid edge and then seal it with the lid.  No splashes, sponge doesn't move - works great.  Obviously, new bottle with lid required.

Use a loofah (sp?) or a "poof" - they work great and you can wash them in the dishwasher.  They stay in the bottles really well.

This topic is a "BT classic" and there are probably 10+ threads out there on this.  My solution (for the older bottle) is to get a "shower poof" (ladies know what I mean) and jam it into the top of the bottle in place of that yellow piece of junk.  You can still fill the bottle on the fly, it doesn't splash at all, and you can get one that matches your bike (mine is black).

Did you expand the sponge?

If you just stick it in there all compressed the way it comes, it's not going to do much. You want to kind of unroll a bit and then stick it in there. Amazingly enough, when you do this, it looks a lot like a loofa.
