Subject: RE: Goofy's race and a half challenge...I purchased a plan from Jenny Hadfield, but don't remember if it was through Active or not. I also got some advise from Jeff Galloway since I am a follower of his run/walk regime. I only ran 3 - 4 days a week, but did back-to-back long runs on most weekends. Basically, on Saturday I ran 1/2 the distance of the planned Sunday run. The longest I did was a 10 miler on Saturday followed by the Tucson Marathon (26) on Sunday. But we ran the marathon as a training event and did not go full out.
I think the biggest part of Goofy training is going SLOW/Easy for the half. The things I didn't train for was getting up VERY early three days in a row (also did the 5K on Sunday, but walked with a friend), and the standing around in lines during the day.
I am doing Goofy again the year, but will probably do less back-to-back runs since I am looking toward a HIM next year and need to stay on the bike. I plan to do run/run one weekend, followed by run/bike the next. Since I am slow anyway, and have no expectation of going fast at Disney (like to stop and get my picture with the characters), I think the training will be fine. Bottom line, if you are marathon trained, and go easy on the half, you will be fine for the Goofy. The race is a BLAST!!! Hope you enjoy. |
