So Lance Armstrong is planning on doing the NYC Marathon. And he says he doesn't plan on competing in triathlons. If I was any of the top male triathletes, I'd be a little concerned right now.

She's done pretty good for a beginner and a mom of three.  I like reading her articles in Runnersworld.

Actually the article states "He indicated he has no plans to run marathons or enter triathlons professionally, at least not at this time".  In other words, make room on the AG podium.

It also states he trains to "fill a void" in his life after pro cycling. My guess would be that void isn't actually training, it's competing and racing.

It sounds like he's leaving open the possibility of trying it out as an age-grouper and if he does well enough and thinks it would be worthwhile turn pro for a season or two.

Remember that quote where he whined about being in so much pain after running just a few miles for excersize?   He probably discovered the joy of conquering a new challenge by being able to overcome that humble start.  Not all that different than the joy the rest of us feel from being able to do what we can do, I'm thinking.  I'm sure starting out at the bottom and seeing big improvements was/is a lot of fun for a guy who is used to having to spend hours in a wind tunnel to shave tenths of a second off his times.

Heck, it's great for those of us just starting at the bottom no matter what. :

Agree. I really have enjoyed her articles. I liked how, when writing about her first marathon, she mentioned that she had spent so much time supporting athletes, but had never thought to become one herself, and in doing so (training for, running the marathon), she learned so much more about herself, things that helped push her through her divorce.

Anyway, it was pretty interesting. Of course, the next marathon she was training for (and writing about), was the NYC Marathon, and she found out that Lance was training for it by watching Leno and hearing him announce it. She was totally pissed ("hey! this is MY thing!". Anyway, I don't think he ended up running it, but either way, it was kinda fun to read about the process. My favorite line was when she was all "Dude, he could stay up all night before the marathon, partying like a rock star (ahem) and still kick my butt on the run". I got a giggle out of the dig against Sheryl. Anyway.... back to Lance....
