My ambitious plan for next year, having just lost my triathlon virginity, is to complete two sprint and two olympic distance races. I'm thinking:

Delta triathlon
Cultus Lake sprint
Squamish Oly
Kelowna Oly

I've done Kelowna - does anyone have input/opinions on the other three? I read some previous threads on Delta and Cultus Lake...

I'm also thinking maybe something in Victoria (or I think there's one at Qualicum Beach)...anyway, what are your favourite BC races?

Delta was my 1st and still favorite!  UBC is a good one and Squamish is supposed to be excellent.  Looks like a great schedule for 08, good luck!

Cultas was great, except the water was a just bit cold this year.  (53 degrees I think)

Actually all the Outbackevents races are awesome.  Joe and Sarah do a great job.

I agree 100%. I think they're cutting the swim back in the Oly from 1500 to 1000m because of the temps at that time of year are so unpredictable. Not sure about the sprint - 500m maybe? The rest of the course is awesome - bike is super flat with one small hill at the beginning and end and the run is great!

I have done both the Cultus and Kelowna tri's. I thought both were excellent, and well run.

I've done Squamish once, Delta twice and UBC three times and all are excellent races. I'm a bit biased toward Delta because I usually help organize it.

tribc.org has a temporary 2008 schedule out, look under Race Schedule in the drop down menu.

For Victoria area, I highly recommend Triathlon of Compassion (July 13). Qualicum Beach is good but it's up-island, 2 hrs from Victoria. Also a great series to check out is LifeSport.com, they put on a great race (Subaru series).
