Sunny
Total Time = 2h 00m 10s
Overall Rank = 567/2000
Age Group = F50-54
Age Group Rank = 4/77
Pre-race routine:

Stayed with a friend in Seagrove Beach, so it was a simple thing -- jump out of bed, have lots of coffee (story to come) and a Power Bar, then walk over to the course.

Warning -- lots of potty talk in this race report. :)
Event warmup:

Shivering -- it was 50 degrees at the start but 70 degrees at the end. How do you prepare for that? Long porta potty lines, so I decided not to wait.
Run
  • 2h 00m 10s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I guess I had too much coffee before the start. Then the porta potty lines were long, so I decided to blow it off. Of course, that's all I could think about during the run, so I finally decided to stop. Then I couldn't get back on pace. I'm just fortunate that I still made my goal!

As an aside -- I stopped at the porta potty a couple of miles after the turn around. There was a very nice woman who was on her way out, not to the turn around yet. She was in line in front of me, but saw that I was on the return and made me go in front of her. :)
What would you do differently?:

Don't drink so much coffee!
Post race
Warm down:

Not much -- walked around a little, some light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The stop in the middle of the race interrupted my pace, and I had difficulties getting back together. Definitely a lesson learned...

Event comments:

They had difficulties with the race results, and of course it started with my age group. They announced the first place finisher, then went on to the men. I started to pout. :( So I went up and questioned them, and it turned out that they had lost an antenna and they had been using wireless transfer, so they had to go to backup. Unfortunately that took a long time. But it turned out ok -- second in my age group!

Well, now they've posted results on the website and it looks like they made another error yesterday, and I actually came in 4th instead of 2nd. I'm going to contact the race committee and see what they want to do.

Nice job Cherie. Potty stories can be bad but you didn't let it get to you. 2nd in your age group in a race of that size is very impressive.

Great job! I did this race last year and had a blast. I thought it was going to be flat as a pancake and was suprised by the topography.

Way to go out there, sounds like the biggest challenge of the run was the morning coffee!!!
