And I mean very initial. Following my ride on the Scott, I came home, put on the Zoot trainers and took my two dogs for a slow 1 mile rune. I didn't wear socks to get a feel for the insides of the shoes. The shoes themselves are very light with out a lot of cushioning. The have a very low, flat profile, more like a racing shoe. They don't seem to have any design feature to promote any certain kind of running like say the Newtons have with their obvious lug system. My initial concern had to do with blistering/chaffing issues I had read about from seams inside the shoe. Following the run I wore them to the grocery store just to keep walking around in them and found I experienced no such discomfort. They are comfortable, fairly wide and their size 11 seems to match up with my old Nike Haywards, although at first I thought they might be a little too big as they just look kind of long.
The run was way to short and slow to address their performance, but I will try them more this week and follow-up.

I'm really being tempted to get these for my tri events only (I already have racing flats with my Saucony Fastwitch II's).  I get a 30% discount for Team Zoot Gu, and have been reading everyone's reviews to see what they think.

I like the idea of sockless (which I run in all shorter events anyways), I like the built in speed laces and I like the way it fits snug a little higher on the ankle.  But I do worry about getting the sizing right .....

I tried them on at a local expo. The 8's were way too tight and the next size was too big. I don't think they are for wide feet. It also felt like there was very little support. Love to hear more opinions.

My local tri store got some of them in and they seem to be more of a racing shoe - not really meant for everyday training. Still deciding if I want a pair of them or go for a regular racing flat in another brand. Keep us updated on your thoughts Bryan - are you planning on using them for everyday training?

I am if I can tolerate it. I couldn't with the Newtons, they were too thin. I'm going to try an 8 mile run on Tuesday with them and see how they feel. In regards to not being designed for a wide foot, I disagree as I have a very wide foot and found the fit comfortable.

I just tried mine this week! I got the Tempo +, love it! Only done a few short runs in it though. Very light, I feel fast in them! I don't think they would be good for longer distance, too little stability for me, but I';ll try it out just for fun. I started getting blisters on the inside of my feet, I do have wider feet, and may go to a men's size next go around, so I wear socks... They sure look cool!

I would like to try them, but the heel cup seems to go so high and I think that would bother me.

IMHO there is no reason they could not be daily trainers. Many people use 6oz flats as daily trainers.

I will try on a pair for sure if I see them around in a store.

I love the looks of these (and the newtons)...but I wear orthotics....does that automatically mean these types of racing flats are a 'no go'?  I also wondering about running sockless with orthotics - does anyone?

Tried a pair of the Tempo + and they just didn't fit my feet right - I tried a few runs with the longest being somewhere around 6 miles - They rubbed blister in too many places - I really wanted to like the shoes but they just didn't work for me - I sent them back to RRS for a refund...

Hey, when you post again, can you get into a little more detail about the sizing? I am interested in trying these shoes but thereare no retail outlets for them where I live. I am a fan of Asiscs but it seems they recently changed thier lasts and most of the shoes I was training in got narrower (DS Trainers specifically). I had to move to a NB shoe which I do not like. Thanks!

Did you get the racing shoe or the trainers? The trainer seems to be as light as a racing shoe from other brands. Let us know what you think about the high heel tab too please. It seems like it would be irritating to the achilles. Thanks!

I just got my pair and did a short run to get the feel... sizing for 13's was right on for me compared to Brooks Burn. I've read other reviews that complained about the heel tab but had absolutely no problem. I did wear with socks, so can't comment on how they are w/o. Planning on a 7-8 miler tonight so I'll report back in.

Jill

I use orthotics and started doing my races without socks last year with no problems.   I wore Brooks Andrenaline 6 and Saucony Grid Trigon 4 shoes.  I started with the Saucony's and switched to the Brook's for my races.  Neither of these are racing flats, they are both stability shoes.   My othortics are silicon with a leather layer on top.  Sprints and Olympic distances last year.

From everything I've read they are saying these are true to size.  I wear a 10.5 regular shoe and run in 11 Sauconys.  Based on what reviewers are saying I should go with 10-1/2's (if they have half sizes).  A snug fit is important for no blisters.

I think I'm going to get the wife or the 'rents to get me a pair for my b-day next month and give them a shot (racing model).  Although I am not a big fan of yellow shoes.

I have the men's Ultra TT, the neutral trainer right now.I am running in them tomorrow for real. I have found the sizing to be comparable to my Nike's, although they do look long and I seem to have a bit more room up front, which I need based on the number of toe nails I have trashed over the past year. I have a wide foot and find there is plenty of room in the toe box. I am going to go sockless for this next run as it's not too far and want to test that aspect out. Rgeadless, I would still wear socks for a marathon.

OK, I'm back from a 10 mile run in the ZOOT's. I didn't not wear socks BUT I did take a pair along with me just in case I needed them and I didn't want to blow off the run. The first 3 miles felt perfect, the shoes were very comfortable but by mile 4 I could feel some rubbing above and on the side of my left heal. By mile 6 it was worse and I stopped to put on the socks. Good thing, I had a blood blister the size of a dime working there!

As soon as I put the socks on, the shoes actually felt even more comfortable, like a slipper almost. I could still feel the blister but it wasn't bad. The shoe's felt very light and responsive, very different from the Newtons. Now I don't believe a running shoe will take seconds off my pace or alter my form, what I am more interested in is how my legs feel while running, how much impact absorption there is to cut down on fatigue, and how I feel afterwards. Here the ZOOT's really worked great for me. My legs felt fresh during and after the workout. In contrast, the Newtons made my legs sore not from their design but from their lack of cushioning. The high heel tab didn't bother me and the lace system works well.

I am hoping that once broken in a little to the contours of my foot I can give sockless running a try again and I plan on wearing these for longer runs, with socks, for the next few weeks. I like the results so far....

That's funny, I just finished a 10 mile run in them also. Felt so good! I wore socks the whole time though. I'm really impressed with them. My legs felt less sore than a normal 10 mile run. I'm fine wearing socks with them, I'm more comfortable with them. I'll be wearing socks on the bike anyway so it won't take off time during a tri either. Very excited to wear them to track tomorrow!

If a snug fit is important to avoid getting blisters from running barefoot, aren't u worried that wearing a sock while contouring the shoe will keep the fit from getting snug? Seems to me like you'd be creating an air pocket that'd cause blistering when you lost the socks.

I have the Tempo + version. Size 14 which is what I wear in Brooks, size 13 in Asics and NB trail shoes. 13 in the Zoot was to tight or at least would've been once things heat up. I wear socks normally and temps haven't been warm enough to go with nude feet.

I weigh in at a beefy 195 to 200 pound range and like the Zoot, though I don't run in them all the time they seem ok so far on runs from 40 to 60 minutes.

The one MAJOR problem I can see with the shoe is that the shoe allows water out, but it allows it in too and in a big way. Not a big deal on wet pavement in the summer, but this morning in 37 degree temps and melting snow it sure was cold when I stepped in the puddles or wet grass.

Thats where I can see the big problem, if you were running in wet conditions with a lot of sand, dirt or mud, it's going to flush up the drain holes with the water, making for a gritty mess in the shoe along side your skin and I'm sure that could cause some issues during long runs.

Love how the shoe feels, goes on and laces. They will be real quick in T2.

These shoe's are driving me crazy! I just had an awesome tempo run in them, my legs feel great, the shoes felt great....and I have 2 new blisters! One on the front of my second toe, which is an odd spot. I think I was trying to use my toes too much to releive some of the rubbing on the blister from yesterday, and one on my right foot on the top left side of my big toe! I really like these and want them to work but I am killing myself. Maybe they need some more break in?

Not to poke or add fuel to the fire, but aren't shoes now made so that there is no "break in" period.  By break in, do you mean your foot to the shoe?

Did you run sans socks again this time?  I got one on my "morton toe" as well and it was a weird spot.  I used the shoe twice and had to find a new mid-distance shoe.

Socks today. I'm not sure what they "claim" in terms of break in, I suppose I mean the shoe becoming more contoured to my foot.

Hey Brian,

Did you try using Body Glide on your feet before wearing the shoes?

How much sockless running have you done before the Zoots?

I was kind of hoping for the $$ that these shoes cost (vs. buying racing shoes on sale) that these would be the perfect triathlon shoe for sprint to olympic distance.

FWIW, I have Saucony Fast Twitch racing shoes ($40 on clearance) and put Yankz ($8) on them. I've only used them them for 5Ks, Sprint Tris and maybe one 5 mile training run but I haven't had any blistering or hot spot issues (knock on wood).
