Both times it asked if I was in doors etc. Man that's frustrating, I just want to train when I head out the door, not wait for the watch to link up.  |

Question: Do you have to pay a monthly fee to access the satellite, uh, assuming you actually can!  I'm worried the chest strap will be annoying -- is it? I was also looking at a MIO wrist heart monitor, but wonder if that's annoying to operate while working out. |

Got the "are you indoors" message and also whether I had transported the receiver a significant distance since it was last switched on, before it finally got a fix. Very strange. |

I had that a couple of weeks ago - so now rather than wait, I just hit the timer to at least have my HR and time and if it catches up great else I have most of the run. now it seems to be behaving but I had the same reaction - what satellites went! |

According to the information at http://gps.afspc.af.mil/gpsoc/advisories.aspx (only some of which I understand). a satellite was taken out of service and this decreased the predicted accuracy of positions in some places. Whether that is related I don't know, but if US taxpayers want to see their dollars at work there's lots of impressive-looking stuff on these pages. Or you could just go run. For me I have no problem as long as the strap is tight enough. I actually found the Garmin strap to be more comfortable than Polars. The only function I work with while working out is either stop/start or the lap function. Both are very accessible. If you want to access other functions it isn't quite as easy. The buttons are small and requires firm pressure which also requires a bit of concentration. |

I just thought it was a fluke. It's a useful tool but I race better without it because I'm not constantly looking down to see what my pace is! |

I turn on the Garmin and put it in a window/ outside/ or on the car dashboard as I get ready to run. Before I put my shoes on. So while I am dressing, eating a partial bagel or drinking coffee the Garmin finds satellites. I find that it finds signals faster if I am not wearing it or moving. A window sill or the patio chair is a great place for it to pick up signals while I am getting ready. For some reason it does fine picking up signals on my dashboard as I drive, even if I am going 70 mph. But roll up the windows. Dont want it flying out a window as I go around a corner. |
