Hey all ....

I'm still new to this site - although I read it often. I have yet to do my first triathlon, but I do hope to do one this year.

I really enjoy duathlons. Does anyone know of any? I see that the Oakdale one is full now and then I don't see anymore until fall...

Just wondering if anyone has any insite? Thanks!

Hi there,

There's a du this Sunday just north of Rochester. Come join us! Also I know there are the Gear West Du and Apple Du races in May.

Midwest events has a comprehensive list of the races in the area:

Actually, I will be down there on Sunday - nervous, but excited!

I'm going to look at the others - thanks for your input.

I did the Ryka Iron girl last fall, but this year I have a wedding the night before - not sure I can combine the two?!

Thanks again.

Unless I missed something, the Apple Duo is on May 24th in Sartell, MN and as far as I know May 1st is the deadline for $40 entrance fees.

There is a small informal DU August 16th in Fargo.  It seems to me  that it was a 2 12 2.  I did it 2 years ago but not last year.  Very informal...but very fun

Hi Everyone,

Your friendly neighborhood Race Director, Bill here (WinterBegoneDuathlon, Rochesterfest Triathlon). I happen to like duathlons quite a bit myself. I suck at swimming currently and like to still compete. I think many people are like me and that is why I want to develop another duathlon. I am working with a city in southern Minnesota to create another event. Most likely it will happen, but we need to do some planning. I am going to have 2 distances (long and short). The short will most likely be a 2 mile run, 25 mile bike, 5 K run. The long will be a 5K run, 40 mile bike, and 5 mile run.

Next year I am going to be offering a late season triathlon/duathlon event. It will be a head to head, equilizer race between the duathletes and triathletes. The event will be a long course event. The swim will be a 1.2 mile swim, the bike will be a 56 mile bike, and the run will be 13.1 mile run. The first run of duathlon will take the place of the swim for the duathletes. We are working out the distance for this run. The goal will be to make a run long enough to match the split for the swim so the race is fair for both disciplines. This will not be easy since there are many aspects to consider. It will be fun no less to see how it all plays out.

What do you all think?

Take care,

Bill

That would be great especially later in the summer or early fall when it's too cold to swim.

Wow, I love this idea that you have for next year!

I am new here on this site, and am just getting into doing duathlons.  I will be doing the Osceola Du Sept 28th.  I am very excited as it is my first Du.

I like the half iron distance tri/du for next year.  Definitely something I would want to take part in.

Hello Wall.  Good luck on the 28th.  I am a bit nervous as it gets closer, but no real reason to be, just the 5 mile up hill to start the bike, i guess.  working on hills so they are not as much of an issue for me, but they still make me nervouse.

Hope you have a great race.

Thank you!  You too.

I'm definately nervous.

As I climb, I remember that the last few miles are mostly downhill.  That seems to help a little...

nah, not really

Wall, I don't know if you did this race this past weekend, but I was there - #33.

I actually made it!!  I am not a fast runner, as for the most part, until recently I have speed walked - not run  - all my races.

I set a goal to do the entire race in 2 hours 40 minutes... oooohhhh I did sooo much better!!

I found myself at a less than 11 minute per mile pace for the first 5K.. I have never done better than 12 min miles for any distance... so I was totally surprised by that.

I was a little slower than I hoped on the bike, but given the hills... gooodness they were tough... I was ok with that.  The bike I was able to do in 1 hour 32 minutes.

the final mile... goodness... I about died trying to take off for that mile... no one else around.. I was obviously near the end of the whole race...  it was a bit discouraging, and I was honestly spent.  I had to throw in an occassional interval of speed walking every so often - intervals of less than 30 seconds when walking, but just enough to catch my breath.  I felt sooooo slow!!  but finished that mile in 11:13!!!  how sweet is that!!

I finished the entire race in 2 hours 20 min 54 seconds... 12 th from the end.. but for ME... and awesome dream come true!  I was pleased that I could finish, and finish in personal bests for me!  that was my goal... to prove that at 50, I could do this.. me... the girl that was NEVER ATHLETIC... never picked to be on the team...  ME... doing the race to begin with, and then doing in times beyond my expectations!  it was quite awesome.

Still had energy enough to add another 21 mile ride the following morning in the Stillwater area... on what our host called a "flat" course.. not so much!!  LOLOL  but it was awesome.

how did you do??  just curious.

I can tell from reading your post how excited you are!! haha....awesome.  Congrats on completing it and doing so well.  Very happy for you.

I was there Smile   #74.

Like you....I did it much faster than I had thought.   My pre-race guesstimate was around 2:15.  I completed it in 1:52.  5k of 26:59 and a bike of 1:11.  I was shuffling after the last transition as I tried to get my legs working again, took about a half mile before I could stretch out the stride a bit.  My last mile took me just over 10 minutes.

The weather was pretty nice wasnt it?  Cool, cloudy, no rain.  Sun wouldve been good but at least no rain.

There was no way I could do another ride the next day like you.  Youre a stud.  My left knee was already bad before the race and my right calf was cramping bad after mile 10 of the race.  Ive been hobbling for the past few days. Laughing  But itll all heal...

That back road, the one connecting F to M, it mustve been called County Y or something...

I commented to the fella I was cycling near that I shouldve brought my mountain bike it was so bumpy.  haha.  It was a rough stretch of road.

Pancakes afterwards?  Thats nothin'...I couldve eaten a thanksgiving turkey to myself!

Thanks for asking and I hope to do this event next year as well.

Congrats again.
