                    ![]() Swim
Comments: One HUGE problem! The tide was out and very low. The water was about 9" deep for greater than 70% of the course. It became a mucky mud run and we only swam for <1/3 of the course through the boat channel. It was exhuasting. What would you do differently?: Have water and actually swim instead of running through black muck. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: No issues. I've taken to making sure I step through T1 logically and not to panic about it. Just get it done in an orderly fashion. What would you do differently?: No changes ![]() Bike
Comments: OK, here's the bad part. I simply couldn't get going. I was working like mad, quads were killing me, breathing was through the roof (no HR monitor today) and I was being passed like mad. I simply couldn't ride worth a damn. I though it was fatigue from the muck-run, but..... What would you do differently?: Yesterday, when I went over the bike, I went through the barrel adjusters. Got everything tweaked nice and responsive. When cleaning up after the race and putting the bike on the car, I found the problem. I overtightened the rear brake pads and the brake was closed against the rim No wonder I couldn't make any steam. This probably cost me a good 15-20% in the bike alone, set aside the extra fatigue. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Again, step through the process in logical fashion and you're through just like that. NP. ![]() Run
Comments: Well, I was cooked from the start. I did pick off my pace group with ~1/4 mile to go and picked up 5 much needed places. It was really tough. That and I've only been cleared by the doc to run for 3 weeks now, so overall, I'm not too disappointed with this. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Lots of head rush. Laid down in the shade for about 15 min. Found some ice and rubbed down What limited your ability to perform faster: Too soon after starting running again. Stupid bike mechanic (me). Not an actual swim. Event comments: I missed the food too. Music was good. Lots of volunteers made the day flow smoothly. Results: http://www.plattsys.com/results/res2008/mrvtri08.htm Last updated: 2008-06-08 12:00 AM

Got to the site at 6:30 and it was already busy. Went to pick up my packet, back to change clothes and then to set up transition. Got a great spot on the outside rack.
Went for a short jog, then to get wet.
