not something you want to see - your 3 year old strapped to a table, getting a ct scan. this morning she did some sofa diving onto the hardwood floor and/or coffee table. i was in the kitchen when it happened. heard a crash, then crying, thought it was fi, my 16 month old, but it was e. she was groggy, wanted to cuddle, then asked to go upstairs and cuddle in bed. she fell asleep. i woke her up after 30 minutes (knew the routine since fi fell down the stairs about 6 months ago - i'm really not a bad mama, we're all just a bit adventurous and a bit accident prone). she was still groggy, but better. fell back to sleep. woke her again after 30 mins. she woke up then threw up. bad news. called the triage nurse at our clinic who said 'ER'. so, off we went. while we were there, she threw up again. did a ct scan. all is normal. mild concussion (and, she has a sinus infection. who knew). she's back to her normal cheerful self now...and was very brave through the whole experience. she's one tough little angel. i'm still a little in shock. i'm skipping my scheduled swim and will spend the evening cuddling with my girls.

Great parenting, Autumn. You did it all by the book.
So glad all's well. You definitely deserve a night off for cuddling. Enjoy.

Glad to read that she's feeling better. I don't have any kids, but I know how wound up I get taking my pets to the vet for emergencies - I can only imagine that it's even worse when it's your kid...

Glad to hear all survived the experience.

Don't worry about missing the training, I'm sure you got quite the cardio workout already.

Gotta hate having to take a little one to the ER, but ya gotta love when the prescription is time, attention, and a bit of cuddling. I'm glad to hear its minor.

Man, been there, done that, NO FUN! My daughter took a nose-dive off one of those 3-ft tall plastic "Little Tykes" slides. they've got awfully resilient skulls, don't they???

The boy has been there twice for trauma.... one mushroom eating incident (try getting a 2-year old to swallow 16oz of charcoal some time. That's an endurance event!), and one "small object inserted into ear" incident.

Glad to hear the kid's okay. Enjoy your evening off. Well done, momma.

:-)

thanks everyone. she's doing really well. we've spent the afternoon watching awful hello kitty movies on the computer (hello kitty and friends act out alice in wonderland, heidi, gulliver's travels, and aladdin). big treat for her since she doesn't get to watch tv at all and movies only selectively. she asked for her favorite pizza for dinner, so my husband is off w/ the baby picking up dinner (i'll be having a 'lite' pizza so i can join in and still count my calories). thanks to those who made me me chuckle and remember that, in time, we'll look back at this and laugh 'remember the time you dove off the couch?'

Yes... I'm remembering when my now fourteen year old dove off the slide onto a broom handle and broke his arm... or when my now three year old dove off his climbing toy onto his head...

The question is, how was her form? ;-)

(your workouts will still be there when she's feeling better)

Thanks for the perspective and reminder of what that sort of thing does to parents, too. I work as a flight paramedic, so often I pick up seriously ill and injured children and take them on a helicopter trip to the regional trauma center or children's hospital. I don't want to feel like it ever becomes routine, but I know I'm not always so acutely aware of how hard it is on the parents to see their child in that situation, much less having to trust total strangers with the life of their child. My daughter occasionally gets a surprise reprieve for a note home from her kindergarten teacher, or an "I think you did great" instead of "allright now, five more bites of broccoli before you can get up from the table" whenever I have a really sick kid at work. I am so glad your little one is okay. Thanks for writing about your experience. Now go get 'em fitted for the bubble-wrap body suit. :-)

Sorry if this is thread hijacking, but this TV absence is a wonderful thing. Our children don't watch Television either and our movie selection is severely filtered and what a difference it makes. In order to watch TV (like the state of the union last night) I have to dislodge the TV from it's cabinet, carry it to the bedroom and attach the cable, then go outside to the cable line and reconnect it. We have access to TV but you have to really want to see something to go thru the effort to see it. It is amazing how much time television wastes and how quickly things disintegrate when it's a presence in our home. Anyways, good for you!

This thread makes me think about my 5yo. Labor Day weekend she busted her forehead open at Sears. (You tell them not to run, but they never listen.) One ER trip & 5 stitches later....... THEN, 10 days later, BACK to the ER... she fell, re-busted open the one spot, and added a second. She's all healed now, but she'll still tell people "I don't fall well."
