Pre-race routine:

Picked up Wendi. Drove to Tampa. Got Wendi registered. Walked around the fitness expo. Stretched. Saw lots of people we know.

Pre-race browsing of the fitnes expo. Walked to race start. stretched in the comvention center.

Comments:

This was a big breakthrough run for me. My first mile I still can't beleive at 8:43. A 5K of 31:49 is really fast for this non-runner. I am very pleased with that result.

I lost Wendi around mile one. I found my friend Susan who had already done the 15K earlier in the morning. I ran with her the rest of the way and she really pushed me. We kept picking out people to pass. There were roughly 6,000 people in the race. I've never done a road race before. It was really fun.

What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Try to not be injured, but I'm doing everything I can about that.

Post race

Warm down:

There was a big walk and it was crowded to get the timing chip cut off your shoe. Got some water. Got my picture taken with a pirate. (Its a Gasparilla thing)Walked back to the convention center. By this time I was wet from sweating and freezing.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I suck at running. I started out faster than I usually do, but I don't think that hampered my overall result.

Event comments:

This was my first road race. I had a great time. The Fitness expo was excellent. They had post race activities that we couldn't find, so they could have done better with that, but for the number of people in this race it was very well done. I had a blast.

Did first mile in my FASTEST ever of 8:43. I couldn't believe it. Made the turn at around 18 minutes, but not sure of the distance as it wasn't exactly out and back.
