Subject: Best Way to Store you Bike Hello there, I'm getting my new bike very soon(QR Seduza) .....consequently I'm very exited and want to take great care of her. Now I have a question: What is the best way (other than in bed with you) for you to store your carbon bike ?? Hang it in the garage (what kind of rack), and should I avoid hanging it by the wheel??? Thanks, Tom |

Pro 6767 the Alabama part of Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Best Way to Store you Bike I use one of these (doule vertical Racor bike rack): It's in the garage/gearzone (along with all my other toys). They also make a version with 3 shelves and a lower bar to keep the bike tires from touching the wall. I haven't had any problems with wheels going out of tru as a result of being stored this way. |

Pro 5892 , New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Best Way to Store you Bike Probably some kind of bike racking system would be good, or a hook in the ceiling and hang it from the front wheel (unless you have a wheel with carbon fairing, then please don't...). Or you can always do what we're doing... 4 bikes in the dining room, 2 bikes in the living room, 2 bikes in the attic and another 2 city type bikes parked right outside the front door.... Yeah, it's kind of hard to miss that we're bike freaks. |

Anything wrong with storing it on its wheels in the garage in between rides? There are pros and cons with all the storage systems. In theory, leaving the bike standing on the ground can accelerate tire deterioration because as the air leaks out and the tire flattens, you end up with a greater surface area on the ground. Plus greater chance of exposure to moisture if the garage floor is damp. Storing by the wheel is thought by some to cause the wheel to go out of true since there is a constant pressure on the rim at the hook. Hanging by the frame has fewest risks to wheel/tire, but takes up more wall space, which can be a problem in small or overstuffed garages (like mine), especially when you have a lot of bikes. |

Should it be hanging by the front wheel? If you have horizontal drop outs, then you definately shouldn't hang the bike by the back wheel, if a road bike or tri bike with vertical drop outs... I don't see how that would make any difference weather you have it hanging from the front or back wheel... |

How would I know if I had horizontal versus vertical drop outs?? |

How would I know if I had horizontal versus vertical drop outs?? Here's a link with pictures. Although I think audiojan means you shouldn't hang from track drops, since the direction of gravitational force could allow the wheel to slip off the bike (it's obvious when you see the pictures what I am trying to say) |

Expert 783 Spokane, Washington | Subject: RE: Best Way to Store you Bike Howdy, I have a Seduza too. If you store it on one of the racks where it sits on the top tube, invest in soem pipe insulation - a tube of foam that you can buy cheap at any hardware store. Cut a piece the length of the top tube and slide it on before you hang it up - keeps the rack from rubbing the tube. Also, depending on the set up, make sure that the handlebars don't contact the top tube when the wheel turns. Mine hangs on a rack like this, but the wheel turns when it hangs and because of my setup the underside of the bullhorn bar scratches against the top of the top tube. I hang a hand towel over the contact point to avoid marring the finish. I hope you love your Seduza - it's a great bike! |

Master 1662 Flagstaff and Phoenix, AZ | Subject: RE: Best Way to Store you Bike Similar here: bought two closet rod support brackets and hung up the bike by the top tube. I wrapped some duct tape around the hangers so they wouldn't scratch the frame. I think I paid $8 total and it took me about 10 minutes to install. Make sure you drill into the studs, not the drywall. The brackets look similar to this one (just got this pic off some website): Edited by SauseEnte 2008-08-17 10:57 PM (shelfrodbrac.jpg) Attachments ---------------- shelfrodbrac.jpg (16KB - 56 downloads) |

Subject: RE: Best Way to Store you Bike I have this same exact rack too. It's been sitting in the box for 7 months and finally I got to hanging it up! Make sure you screw it into a stud It's cool to see the bike just floating in mid-air in my garage. I'm picking up my mountain bike today, so I guess I gotta get another one. Of all the methods and ways to hang a bike, this one seemed to me to be the best. |
