Subject: Gold in women's discus!
Okay, minor coverage, but WOW..US thrower Stephanie Brown Trafton launched a personal best and gold medal winning throw in the women's discus! It's been since 1932 that American women have even won a medal at all in the discus.  She upset the favorites...so, for one of the oldest of Olympic disciplines, congrats and way to go--212+ feet is awesome!!! (the last medal won by the US was a 133+ throw...boy do times change!)

sooo happy for her!!!!!  discus was my favorite throwing event so it was nice to see USA finally winning a gold there!

I heard a nice story about her—she supposedly idolized Mary Lou Retton as a little girl and dreamed of being an Olympic gymnast. But, she just kept getting bigger and bigger, and it was clear that gymnastics was not in the cards, even before she topped out at 6’4”. Somehow she found her way to discus and the Olympics, and now she gets to go home with a gold medal just like Mary Lou.
