We need to start getting a count for how many people will want BBQ over the race provided chow.  Please vote for what you might eat.  Vote once for each serving.  If you can help with the prep, please PM me with your contact info.  Also include how much ($$) you are willing to spend per person to put this on.  If the count gets too big, we can look at catering

Also, keep in mind that the racers get FREE Freebirds and there is a BBQ dinner that night.

Are you using the poll to get a count too or just general preferences?  Hubby is doing part of the relay too and I can't vote twice so +1.

What kind of "prep" are you needing?  I'm doing the run so I'll be hanging out for a while.

Let us know.

Ok, so far, that's one brisket and a bag of chicken.  If it's this small, we can bring a small pit/smoker and have side items as well. That leaves more room for a bigger cooler of beer.

I voted $5-$10, but I'm not eating any meat... vegetarian here. So I guess I'll handle my own by bringing some veggie burgers. ?

Other than cheering for Jonny and other BTers, I am "free" for the race to help out as needed. I don't mind cooking meat... but keep in mind, I don't know how so you gotta watch/tell me how.

I am more than willing to bring/provide something that can be pre-prepared (veggies, chips, some sort of salad, etc.) but if I could transfer it to someone the day prior, that would help as I'll be in total "race mode" the morning of the race.

Also, we may want to put something in the IronDistance forum as I'm not sure how many out-of-state racers (I think there are several) are checking the TX forum other than the "official" Longhorn race thread.  There are so many people signed up for this that it'd be nice to get a big BT group together and contributing!

1st Post about the BT Tailgating at Longhorn.  Here are the official "rules":

There will be NO vehicle traffic allowed into the park on Sunday (race day)

o   All parking will be at the Travis County Expo Center

o   Shuttle buses will be provided to transport to the race site

·       Trailers, tents, etc may be set up on Saturday between 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm

o   This is also during Bike Check In

·       You may set up on race day, but keep in mind, you will need to hand carry everything in.

·       You may not stay overnight at the park

·       Security will be onsite, but will not be designated specifically for the Team Tailgate Zone.

o   Please do not leave anything of value in your designated area

·       All spots will be marked clearly with chalk and a sign with your team name.

So what's the plan then? Are we setting up Saturday? Or carrying stuff in on Sunday? Or tailgating from the Expo (which won't really work)?

So, the question I have is with all the stuff being provided at the race, how much "tailgating" does everyone want to do?  All racers get:

The Texas Beef Council has just informed us that they'll be bringing 300 lbs of HEB lean beef brisket to put in their tacos for everyone at the race! We'll also have Freebirds burritos for everyone when you finish, plus great organic fruit from Greenling, Jim-Jim's Water Ice, Amy's Ice Cream, Vitamin Water, Sweet Leaf Tea, and Michelob Ultra BEER!

I will have a smoker grill, wood & charcoal, 2 big coolers with ice for drinks (BYOD)& cold items, a big water cooler, plates, napkins & wetones, plastic silverware, trash can & bags, cups, serving table, a tent, music and a few chairs.

If folks want to bring drinks (ie beer), extra food like chips, beans, potato salad, or whatever, I will be at the bike drop-off setting up from 1-4 (green King Ranch Ford F150 with IM sticker) and you can drop-off your stuff to store in my truck overnight.  Everything has to fit in the cab or sit in the bed of the truck overnight (Security is not provided, so leave your good stuff at home or bring race morning).  Refrigerated stuff will be in the iced down coolers overnight.

I will have enough BBQ meat (brisket, chicken, ribs and sauce), white bread, pickles and onions to feed about 30-35 people (mainly non-racers since Endurofun is providing so much food to the racers).   Total cost for all this is about $300.  I was going to do a Paypal but would rather have people who actually eat the food pay on race day or Saturday.

Need some directions here...there are a lot of peeps coming from outside of TX who aren't usually on this forum so I'm telling people to stop by the tailgate so I can meet them, I'd like to let them know the deal too.  That being said I would like to post under Ironman forum so everyone has access.

1.)  How much do we need to chip in and to who?  I saw the poll but no official ruling (I could be blind..sorry)

2.) How many are you currently planning for?    Are we still open to adding more?

3.)  For those of us who are somewhat local, should be plan to bring something to share?

4.)  Beer...I'm assuming bring our own for our support crews and Keith has racers covered  with a sponsor...I think.

5.)  Do you still need help that day to BBQ?  I kicked hubby off the bike so I could do it so he's ready and willing to help.  If you don't need him I'm sure he's up to help with the race.

Let us know!

Thanks,
K

Michele is bringing some sort of dessert.  We'll also bring drinks, etc.  I'll be there on Saturday to drop off my bike.  I'll swing by and help set up.  I assume the tailgate area is in the park?

I will put out a "tip" jar on Sunday for people to contribute or pay me on Saturday at the drop-off.  I really don't want to spend all day trying to determine who has paid and who has not.  If you eat, pay what you think is appropriate.  I am spending $300, so if 30 people contribute $10 each, it's even.  If you are dishonest, then you will crash on race day.

2.) How many are you currently planning for?   30-35

Are we still open to adding more?

I don't have the bandwidth to provide for more for the meat.  However, people can bring their own and use the BBQ grill, plates, etc.  I will keep the fire going as long as people need to use the grill.

3.)  For those of us who are somewhat local, should be plan to bring something to share?

Great idea, please do.  I mentioned some items that might go with the meat above in my post.  I would also suggest desert stuff since I have a sweet tooth for oatmeal raisin cookies

4.)  Beer...I'm assuming bring our own for our support crews and Keith has racers covered  with a sponsor...I think.

YesYou can also drop-off beer at my truck on Saturday between 2-4pm to store in ice overnight.  Cans would be best but I understand the desire to drink from a longneckPlease dispose of your trash in the appropriate places.

5.)  Do you still need help that day to BBQ?  I kicked hubby off the bike so I could do it so he's ready and willing to help.  If you don't need him I'm sure he's up to help with the race.

I am BBQing on Friday (smoking actually).  Saturday, we have to pack-up the truck and be in the Team area between 2-4pm to set-up and leave the truck/tent overnight.  Sunday morning you have to carry everything into the park from the Expo Center, either via bus or walking (about a mile). I plan on arriving at 5am on Sunday morning to get the stuff out and start the fire.  Kari and I are both doing the swim portion of the relay so we only be away from the Team area for a short time (between 8:15- 9:15).

Tommy, It's my understanding that the tailgate area is in the grassy area usually reserved for parking between the entry road and the sand volleyball court and the fence and the run course.  I am hoping we get placed right next to the run course so we can heckle cheer for our fellow BT'ers.

All of this sounds great! I have to remember to hit the store to get some sides and veggie burgers for us (ME?) non meat eaters.

I was worried about eating while being out there to spectate. Happy to know I won't starve.

I will bring something, I don't know what, but it'll be something.  If I don't drop it off on Saturday, I'll just haul it in on Sun morning with my gear--easier without the bike.  Can't wait to see everyone, have a great race, and party with the BT Gang.  I look foward to the heckling cheering while on the run course--I will need the encouragement!

Another non-meat eater here. I can split the cost of veggie burgers with you if you're going to be picking them up anyway, just let me know.

I'll also throw some money in the main pot as my hubbie will be there too and he'll probably want some real meat

I'll bring at least 4 of them and maybe 8 if I buy two boxes. I'll probably pick up Morning Star Farms black bean burgers and maybe their grillers. I don't care for Boca.

Whatever money you would have given to me... give to the guy with the meat. He needs it more than I do.
